Barron, The quote you made about bad Ref calling in the STA/Laff. game, I just feel if WE ALL, (not only you) as spectators, pay more attention to the game on how well and physical the players play and let the Ref's do their job, which they are paid to do. I feel, if we could do better then we should get qualified and show them how a soccer game is called. Thanks for the input. Fastman, your post makes no sense.

St. Josephs 1 Byrd 0
St. Josephs scored with 10 minutes left in the match. St. Josephs really put the pressure on the entire second half. Kate Crawford for Byrd had an outstanding night in goal to keep the score where it was.

This is an amazing result. It just goes to show you that the polls, hype, etc. don't mean a thing. Byrd was supposed to be top five, a contender, et.al. and they lose at home. I saw St.Joseph get dominated by Dominican a few weeks ago and now St.Joe's is in the quaterfinals ans Dominican is ousted by FHS in the first round. If the LHSAA knew anything about anything there would be seedings.

Chapelle 3 Hahnville 1
Here's some game details....Angelle Lambert scored 2 and Nazily Alcozar scored 1 for Chapelle. Ashley Eusa scored 1 for Hahnville. Chapelle had the game 1-0 at halftime, and Eusa tied it at 1. Alcozar came back with a goal, and Lambert added her 2nd goal. Chapelle dominated the game missing some opportunities to score, and Hahnville capitalized on their few chances with 1 goal.

I don't think anyone believed the hype except Bryd. As ShreveDad said, it isn't that Byrd is strong, it's more that Magnet is unusually weak this year. That's the only way they won the district title. This result is absolutely no surprise.

so was this last post an attack on byrd or magnet? magnet really showed their class tonight by cheering for st. joe's. maybe if it's a district game, sure, cheer for who ever. but when a team is representing your city, shy cheer against that team? very unclassy. i guess magnet couldn't beat byrd so they had to cheer for someone else to beat them.

Byrd to my knowledge did not beat a single team outside of North Louisiana. The played 2 Mississippi teams in Monroe and lost both matches, then played a tournament in Arlington and lost all 3. They gave it everything they had tonight but lost to a bigger, faster, stronger team.
Shame on the magnet kids if that is true.

At Bishop Sullivan -- 1 St. Scholastica -- 2
Very good match! #9 for Bishop and #22 & #1 for St. Scholastica were very impressive.

As ShreveDad said, it isn't that Byrd is strong, it's more that Magnet is unusually weak this year. I said at the start of the year that this was the year for Byrd to take the district title away from Magnet. They did and they should be proud. I also thought that our teams up here this year just weren't good enough to beat the best from South Louisiana. My guess is Shreve and Magnet both will fall on Wednesday. One note on Byrd. They were hit extremely hard with injuries and transfers over the last year. They had 2 go down last year with ACL injuries, they played this year but in my opinion didn't have the speed of last year. 2 of last years starters also transfered, 1 out of state and 1 to a private school here that does not play soccer. Then in the first Magnet match this year they lost another player to a knee injury. She also came back but was not 100%. Byrd had a chance this year to be really good but lady luck did not shine on them. I also want to take this chance to say a little something about the Byrd seniors. My daughter played with several of them in club and knew all of them. They are a wonderful bunch of girls who have been great ambassadors for their school and the soccer community up here. I wish them nothing but the best in whatever lies ahead for them.

Byrd didn't play the way they could and lost. St. Joe's was the better team tonight. No excuses. I heard from two different parents that Magnet players were cheering for St. Joe's. That really makes your district look good Magnet. Since Byrd, in your opinion, is not good that really makes Magnet look even worst because you lost to us twice this year. Magnet you can learn even more about losing than winning. Byrd was the power house from 1994 to 1999 and Magnet was from 2000-2004. Get over it you lost. Who knows what lays ahead next year. How about being a good sport.
I would like to thank Shreve Dad for all he has done for girls soccer but I think you have "CBS news" bias against Byrd in my opinion. Anytime you give us any type of praise you have to attach several reasons on why we won or why you lost to us. I don't think Magnet or Shreve did too well against none North LA teams. I was amased at how fast you could post our score when we lost especially on the games in Arlington. Shreve I hope you can pull off an upset against #4 Lafayette High. And Magnet if what I heard is true about pulling for St. Joe's remember you reap what you sow.

Vandebilt - 9 West Ouachita - 1 Vandebilt looked very skilled and if not for the mud would have been a lot more. They passed well and set up their top scorer - who sits in the box and waits for her shot. Their mid is very good and all over the field - nothing got away from her. A good complete game despite the conditions.

Sorry if it appears that way. Nothing could be further from the truth. What makes you think that I wasn't hoping that Byrd would win. Guess you didn't see me, my wife, another Shreve mom and several referees there all cheering for Byrd. I have known most of those girls since they were in grade school. I always root for all the area teams when they play out of town teams. As far as the scores, I post the scores win or lose. I happily posted the Magnet boys score when I found out they won yesterday. Would have done the same for your girls.

Shreve Dad I didn't think you wanted us to lose but if we had won there would have been some reason that we won other than we had a good team. Byrd had a really good team this year and had they played like they played against Magnet both times and like the first time we played Shreve we could have won the game. Like it said in the paper the spark was not there last night. I think maybe some of the girls especially the younger ones seemed overwhelmed for what ever reason.
Is St. Joe's a good team? Yes. Could we have beaten them? Yes. Not taking anything away from St. Joe's. They came to play and we didn't.
Could we have won state? No. But I do think we still belong in the top 10.
See you next season.

I think Byrd's small size finally caught up with them as St. Joe's constantly got better position in contested balls. Caitlin Crawford, Byrd's goalie, played a great game. Her defenders appeared to have a lost a step last night. I heard one had been ill. Junior Kate Querbes played very well last night too. St. Joe's midfield game was better. Best of luck to them. Byrd's speed had overcome their lack of size all year, but not last night. Byrd loses 6 starters, but had only 1 junior on varsity this year, so they'll have a young team next year. They'll have a tough time replacing the departing seniors, but watch out in '07!

There are also 4 freshmen who really stepped up and had huge roles for Byrd this year. Katie Drummond was the leading goal scorer in the city this year. Stephanie Hall played started at center mid and was a leader on the field. Lauren Burkhalter and Lacey Hanna played in the back and shutdown every team they played.. Lacey either got sick or was hurt early in the second half last night and that goal may not have been scored if she had been in the match.

Baton Rouge 4 Caddo Magnet 3 Very good game to watch...Either team could have deserved to win, and Caddo looked like they would have tied it up if they could have a had a few more minutes. Baton Rouge High seemed to be coming down from their peak and will hopefully bring their game quality back to where it was in district play before their quarterfinal match aganist West Monroe/ Comeaux.
