Am I mistaken or are Redemptorist and Bishop Sullivan restricted to a certain zone from which to draw students (athletes)? I'm not sure about Catholic, St Joes, Dunham, Episcopal, Parkview, etc, . I do seemed to remember having to take my daughter to an interview before she was even considered for enrollment. Along with specific test and grades, no where along the way in this process was she asked about any athletic prowess. They did say she had to have at least a 2.5 grade point average to be eligible to play any interscholastic sport. Somehow I don't think that is the case in the EBR public school system. But I could be mistaken and maybe someone will enlighten me.

But I could be mistaken and maybe someone will enlighten me. Students from all over can attend any Catholic school they want but there are rules where athletes are concerned. Catholic High and St. Joe's are not co-ed. Since we lived in the St. Joe district, we were allowed to go to a co-ed Catholic school outside of the district without penalty. That penalty was sitting out one year of eligibility. If we would have been in a Catholic school district that offered co-ed, we would have had to sit. As for GPA, Redemptorist is currently requiring all student athletes to maintain a GPA above the minimum required by the LHSAA. The plan is to move the GPA requirement up each year. If a student athlete falls below the required GPA, they go on probation and must be tutored onsite. If the GPA doesn't improve in a specified period of time, the athlete can no longer participate in sports. Parkview is not a Catholic school so I can't speak for their eligibility requirements.

oo7, the last i checked elementaries had kids over 5 yrs of age. yes parents and coaches from private schools watch for younger talent. 007 they dont recruit the kid, they recruit the parent to send their kid to that private institution. all of you are blinded by your ignorance if you dont belive that this happens. i see it every weekend, at recreation leagues where kids between 5-12 play.

what i was saying that when they transfer to their private school, they do so at an early grade level like the 5th or 6th grade. so they dont have to sit out a year.

what you still don't understand is that attending a catholic middle school does not guarantee you a spot in a catholic high school not to mention you have to take a entrance exam for high school and go through an interview process. also to transfer in to a private middle or elementary school there is a waiting list a mile long some kids have been on that waiting list since there were in kindergarten and they might get in before they are out of middle school. also getting into a private high school from a public middle school is extremely difficult. you are so delusional soccerpunk i don't know how others can listen to you. do you think that aliens killed JFK too?

Okay, let's not get personal. No need for all that. Besides, this looks more like a fishing expedition rather than a thoughtful discussion.

LHSAA will let anyone go anywhere if you have some pull or money no mater public or private.Look at Neville girls One girl lives out of their city system and was given a hardship case, and one girl moved from private school to Neville and was given a hardship . I think LHSAA rules should be called sometime rules. Waht do you think???

i do agree that the lhsaa is at fault in some of this in the way they handle situations. also lets not forget that the main problem they are having is with the football programs not with soccer, volleyball, basketball or baseball/softball. Tommy Henry said it himself that the main problems lies in football. I think that soccerpunk and i can pretty much agree to disagree everyone has their own opinions on the matter. i really don't think this is a issue that is ever going to be resolved. I just don't think it is fair that people say that all private schools do is recruit. i think there ar faults in both the private and public schools. i just don't think that you should split up the schools just so someone can win a state championship. private schools do not dominate in all sports. i played sports all through high school and on the collegiate level. we were even state runner-ups yes it would have been nice to win a championship but that is not the only reason to play a sport.
