Thanks PumaFC, The girls have worked hard (as has the coach). Their goal is to be able to compete with teams out of this area where there are stronger programs ;D

I must say I am quite impressed as well with the change Tioga has shown, although the guys are yet to really come around but they can be a bit tougher to work with I suspect if the coach doesn't crack down on them. However the girls have a good coach who gets them motivated and pushes them and I believe is a Brit unless I'm horribly mistaken. Guarenteed one thing with a good ole' British manager and that is determined players who start to really enjoy the game and want to improve and fight. Congratulations on improving tremendously and keep up the good work.

I am trying to remember speaking to the coach at Parkway - her daughter she said still had the 2nd most goals scored in season - somewhere in the 70-80 goal range - I will try and find out. Look at the link belwo and it shows high school career records - girls for LA is blank but for boys it is Jason Garey with 170 for LA. studentsportssoccer.rivals.com/default.asp?FP=3123

Here are the records from NFHS - scroll to the bottom and click on soccer. It is a 10 page PDF file - I was right and wrong - the coaches daughter from Parkway is #2 alltime in a career with 242 goals from 2001-2004 - her name is Rachel Alexander. She is in the top 10 for a season with 82 one year. www.nfhs.org/ScriptContent/Va_custom/recordbook/index.cfm

just an opinion....these stats are bogus. they are recorded by moms and dads usually (who volunteer and they are much appreciated). most schools don't have a statistician for soccer. it's not football where the local newspaper records and prints every yard gained, every pass completed or intercepted, and every sack. it's not baseball....do I have to explain that one?
what I'm getting at is there are no timeouts in soccer. no time to say...."hmmmmmmmmmmmmm? was that a shot or really just a clear by a defender that the GK happened to get to before the sweeper could collect it....OR was it a "shross"(shot/cross) by a midfielder.
there is no clear and undisputed definition of what is a shot or what isn't....unlike balls and strike in baseball. soccer tends to be alot more subjective. I know I am stating the obvious to alot of you but these records...in some cases...are tainted, exaggerated, or just plain inflated.
OK....one last thing before y'all flock to your keyboards to attack!!.........I am taking nothing away from Jason Garey or R. Alexander.........they both scored a ton of goals and are in the top percentile of players to come from LA....in Jason's case......he may arguably be the best ever in terms of actual college(lets hope MLS tooo) results and awards instead of just glorified all state/district/ODP honors: the guy actually just WON. can't argue with that.
what I am saying though is stats in HS soccer are biased and largely subjective if not inaccurate AT BEST.

Sometimes the opponent (Weak or Strong) determines how many goals are scored by a player. Sometimes a coach will hold a player back from scoring when they are way ahead, others let players go for some sort of record. The bottom line is: Do all these goals come a critical juncture to help the team win. Otherwise the are only fleeting glory for one player.
