Mt. Carmel and St. louis played to a 1 - 1 tie at end of regulation. Went to Pks for tournament championship and Mt. Carmel won. Very good game played by both teams. I think both of these teams will go far when it comes to playoff time

Its a shame that such good soccer teams had to play games on poor fields with even poorer officiating. I know the rain was a factor but the grass does not grow that fast in December. The lake charles tournament had many more games being played and managed to have three officials for each game. I think Lafayette could have done a better job had they put for the effort

I guess your team didn't win because of a bad call. LOL

I agree with drjeckie. The LHS people could have and should have done a lot better job. Officiating was indeed sad (my team won by the way). I wonder who will return to the tournament next year.

foreverred, drjeckle, just have to get use to the fact that officiating in La is "hit and miss" at best (especially in Lafayette and New Orleans areas) and just chalk it up as part of the game, that way it won't get to you that bad when it comes to the outcome.

For those concerned with the officiating in the Lafayette area contact the LYSA office at 337-261-KICK (5425) for the dates and times of the next referee course. As always looking to get some of the referees out of the stands and certified to be on the field! ;D ESPECIALLY those with eyes good enough to see fouls, offside, and balls in and out of play from 60 to 100 yards away!

Some people happened to be coaches as well as refs. It's ok to hear the "people" speak their opinion. There were a lot of unfortunate calls and that is a fact. That observation alone doesn't mean that everyone has to go get their ref licences. Some teams travel hundreds of miles to make these tournaments happen so allow them to express their opinion. Instead of being so defensive and sarcastic may be you should ask and get informed on the issues that come up. Unfortunately your reaction is a mirror image of the reactions we get on the field....

For all of those who complained about the tourney, we know you can never be pleased but we thank you for attending the tournament. We also thank all the teams that attended for many well played game dispite some of the WORST display of sideline hissy fits. If there was a trophy for these sideline antics the MCA coaches would win this hands down.
I wouldn't normally attack anyone in this manner, but when a couple of coaches take it upon themselves to pick on a 7 year old ball boy, I have to say something. When a coach tells a kid to "STOP LAUGHING" and "GET AWAY FROM MY TECHNICAL BOX", keep in mind this was a 7 year old trying to follow the play on the field to throw balls to the girls. I wish I would have been around that field when this was said because I would have approached the coach and asked for an apology there on the spot during the game. Maybe i would have been escorted off but you see at 6' 3" I wish he would tell me something instead. Much different outcome, I could do something about it.
Coach, you know who you are, I commend your girls on a great tournament and by no means do i look at your team in the same manner in which I look at you. But just in case our paths cross in the playoffs, you WILL get to meet me. Because I will be man enough to walk over to you look you in the eyes and tell you I KNOW for a FACT that you said this to this 7 year old kid. Lets see if you are man enough to take it when it is someone that is big enough to do something about it.
To the MCA girls, good luck with the rest of your season. But just a little advise, appreciate what your coaches can teach you about soccer, but find better role models on how to treat kids and people in general.

I heard that the St. Louis Girls also had problems with the MCA coaches. I was told that after MCA scored their goal, Mt. Carmel's coaches taunted the St. Louis coaches and St. Louis girls on the bench instead of congratulating their own players on a great goal.

I did not say that my team lost due to bad officaiting. the refs were so bad they missed just about every foul no matter what team was guilty. intense games tend to esculate when fouls are not called. This happended in several of the matches at this tournament. I due not fault the refeerees entirely. Dual refs does not work well with teams that attack and then counter attack. the refs end up stayind deep on each side to watch for offsides therefore leaving the middle of the field a no mans land. I talked to three referres from the Lake charles area and one from Baton Rouge, None knew that Lafayette had a shortage of refereees for the tournament games so I have to think that Lafayette was happy with dual refs.
The fact that there were so few teams participating should be a sign that a better job needs to be done

I am with MCA and I was on the bench, and I think it is so wrong to accuse these people without knowing the facts. The coach was ACTUALLY kidding with the ball boy and girl. In fact one of the girls (a blonde i think she is a LHS player that is injured) she became very friendly with the coaches. They were even joking around when she was a ball girl for a boys game) Our coaches did not taunt the St.Louis girls. One of their coaches kept making comments to our coaches so they responded. They are emotional they get excited and that is their crime. They actually congratulated the St Louis coaches BEFORE the penalty kicks!! We have a very young team (9 so, 2 fr) lost 7 seniors, and these guys are doing a good job. I wish more coaches were as enthusiastic as these people are. Again, please, know the difference between a joke and intimidating a 7 year old. That never happened and never will.

Sokerfan, I thought personal attacks are not allowed on this forum. Maybe that excludes the people who run it. You should also get your facts straight before you post things like this. And as for the taunting comment I guess you were not there to see the sideline antics of the St. Louis bench. And I guess you were not there to see their antics in the game the two teams played in the St. Martin tournament. The sad fact is that a bad call started all this with the St. Louis goal. The refs should let the girls decide these games. Once things calmed down did you hear about the MCA coaches going to the St.Louis bench and congratulating every coach and every girl that no matter what happens in the PKs they are the best team they played this year? And once they won the game, did you see any celebration from the coaches or the girls? It was a well played game by 2 of the best teams in the state. But when refs make calls that can decide a game, that's not fair to the girls. And as for the comment about the techincal area it was made to a girl that was old enough to be playing on the field for Lafayette. Did she have to be standing inside the 10 foot area of the coaches? I think the comment was appropriate and was not out of line. As for the Lafayette referrees, I have a long experience. And unfortunately for you guys it's not just me. Everyone knows how they call the games. Did you see the PK that was called for you guys against MCA? What was that all about? Either way, I wish you and yours a Happy New Year, and I look forward to meeting you and buying you a drink. As for your advice to the MCA girls I appreciate that. One thing is for sure, the MCA coaches will not sit around and let a ref take their team out of a game and they will not let other coaches intimidate their players, without saying something.
