Very dissapointed to hear STM has chosen to cancel this game. Would have been the game of the season for both teams.
Is STM perhaps trying to protect their record???
Thoughts?

I have no information about why STM would have canceled the game but doubt it was to protect its record since a loss would have had no impact on their D1 playoff schedule.
Given the quality team that St. Louis has, I would believe that STM would have wanted to play the game to prepare for the playoffs (and that goes for any of the other top division teams playing any of other leaders of other divisions).

I don't know why they cancelled it but it would be nice to see how they do against St. Louis especially since the number 2 ranked team has played St. Louis twice and beaten them both times, with both games very good and very close. Why can't the game be rescheduled?

It is my understanding that STM had a district game rained out earlier in the season and they have chosen to reshedule the game for the 28th. since they were already scheduled to play. I hope that they may agree to a scrimmage game or a combined practice with St. Louis so St. louis may have an oportunity to play on an artificial surface

What i know of STM coach, would no way drop the game to protect the record. In fact a loss right now- if it were to happen - might be a good thing.

In that case it sounds like the game will be rescheduled. Please let us know when.

I don't know why STM cnacelled, but it is not because of a rained out district game. They have played all scheduled district games to date.

St. Louis has played the number two ranked team twice. Lost one and tied one. the PKs were for the tournament championship not the game itself. a technicality, maybe but we are working hard to maintain our # 3 ranking in Division I LOL
St. Louis has played STM twice also, one tie and a close 1-0 loss
For some reason all four games listed above turned into very physical and very intense games. with a possible playoff game coming for STM within a couple of days of the scheduled game with St. louis and the high level of competition in STM district, I can see where I might not want to get into another hard game for no reason

Very dissapointed to hear STM has chosen to cancel this game. Would have been the game of the season for both teams. Is STM perhaps trying to protect their record??? Thoughts? Thought! STM had two earlier games (12/28 and 12/29) scheduled with Sacred Heart. The Sacred Heart coach fell ill and the games had to be cancelled. The St. Louis game was scheduled as a tentative game because it was so late in the season. I know STM loves playing St. Louis for a number of reasons: 1. Class team with class players; 2. Great competition and clean play; and, 3. Super parents/following. That adds up to a fantastic atmosphere for competitive soccer. STM is keeping their commitment to play Sacred Heart. As far as the insinuation that STM may be trying to protect their record---I invite whoever thinks that to look at STM's schedule this season AND come out and see the STM v. Newman (yes four time state champ in DIII) on Saturday 1/19 at STM.

burtvincent, thanks, I didn't know that STM played you twice already. In that case I don't think a 3rd game would be necessary. As for your 2 losses against MCA, the second one is not a technicality. You play the game for what it is. A district game and a championship game require a winner. You can't say you didn't lose the game. It's like when Italy's Baggio missed the PK and lost the World Cup final saying that the game ended in a tie and his country lost the World Cup in a technicality!
I do agree however that your team belongs up there and I think that's the route the system should go. Separate teams by strength not by size of school and location. Then you would really have the best teams out there competing.
As for the comment by eurosweeper that STM plays the 4 time champ in division III, Newman is not what it used to be. And when the only teams in that Division have been Newman and Sacred Heart then it is not hard to be the champion! I am glad to see St. Louis entering the competition now. I hope you win it all this year.

So burtvincent, is reddevil saying that the last two years that Newman beat St. Louis in the semi-finals that St. Louis wasn't worthy competition?

And when the only teams in that Division have been Newman and Sacred Heart then it is not hard to be the champion! . Hmmm...Let's see.... Newman has wins against St. Scholastica, Lafayette & Dominican They have ties vs. Mt. Carmel & STM Their only 2 losses came against Mt Carmel & St Louis. I guess this is a down year.

afan, I do not think that reddevil was questioning st. louis. I think he was pointing out that some division one districts have more quality teams than all of Division III.

Sacred Heart will have to cancel a previously scheduled game with Dominican and STM will have to cancel a game with St. Louis so they can play each other. instead of four teams playing now only two will play I guess St. Louis and Dominican were not good enough maybe they can get together and play each other

As far as I know, it is against LHSAA rules to play any type of match between the end of your district date and playoffs. Games can only be played up and until district is finalized.
