congratulations to all players voted to all-state. LHS players keep your heads up and be proud of this past season. You guys represented Lafayette as a team and not individuals. Be proud of your accomplishments and move on.

I want to clear up a misunderstanding. When I said the board screwed up, I meant the coaches board not this board. I know this board only post the info. As they say, don't shoot the messenger. I fault the coaches on this one.

Congratulations to Brennan, Connor, Will & Kevin! I am so excited for all of you and your accomplishments. A big thanks to the whole Shreve team that also contributed to all of the success this year. Obviously, it took the whole team to make it to the Finals and I know these 4 know that.
I was even more thrilled for Coach Matt Smith for being named Coach of the Year! I am so happy that his fellow coaches recognized how much he achieved. He truly took a lot of diverse personalities and talent and unified them into a team and achieved more than most thought possible (including me, I have to admit). I know that I can speak for all of the parents in saying how grateful we are to Matt and Clint for all that they put into this team and gave of themselves to these boys. Congratulations to both of you!

I think some people got the wrong impression on here. In no way do I want to bash daniel. He's a great teammate and a fantastic forward in fact i think he was shafted by not getting all-state as an offender. HOWEVER, that being said let's move away form daniel in particular and look more specifically at how the all-state teams are chosen. Maybe they should create an all-purpose all-state player bc trevor and daniel would have fit that role perfectly. I know we all have to move on but i just hope the coaches realize how much they choked on this one.

I also meant the coaches board. I just don't understand how an all district defensive mvp who plays on the same team as daniel does not make it over him for defender? That is not fair to him, nor is it fair to daniel because he was recognized for a position he did not play. It makes me wonder if the Lafayette High coach did this or if it was all the coaches who only knew Daniel because he is so deeply involved in highschool soccer politics. Very disappointing end to a season.

Just remember, that not every coach gets to see every school play. Therefore, it is not easy as a coach to Pick an all-state team. Therefore if Daniels was an all-state defender last year, and I got to see him play. Comparing him to when I last saw him, and what I have seen this year knowing he was a Junior, it is easy to say that he would be an all-state defender (if he was one). Coaches get battered each and every way possible -- trust me, I know. I have been an assistant for 3 years, and I take more heat then assistant coaches just because my name recognition from this board. Just remember when you mess up, someone will be on you, just like you are on the coaches, and just remember how it feels. I am sure your points have been duly noted in the last 3 pages, so how about some new discussion

If that was the case, why did someone not step up and say that Daniel no longer plays defense? If not the lafayette high coach, then someone else? Anyone who read la prep at anytime this year has, I'm sure, seen Daniel's named mentioned as a forward. I'm not bashing coaches, I'm bashing the process. It's flawed and ridiculous, and someone should have said that he should not be honored for a position he doesn't play. If that's the case, goalie's should get honors for all state forwards and coaches should get honored as all state midfielders.

I assure you the Lafayette coach has done all he could to try and do whats best for his players. Jeremy is a great guy, and I talked to him about Daniel being nominated on Forward/Defender and he gave me adequate information. However, once its voted, its done. Not everybody is capable of making the meeting where its announced. Many coaches coach younger premier, D1 teams and/or referee and attend tournaments. Therefore they just can't throw-out those coaches opinions and say, hey he is a forward. Is the process flawed? Sure, but hey that is why we have a Coaches Association for the FIRST year. They have made TREMENDOUS ground in getting a new playoffs seeding and an all-star game. They cannot fix every problem in the state overnight, but that is what we expect. Sure it sucks, but hey if you want perfection, it will take time. And as much as I read LaPrep, I cannot tell you what kid players where and for what school. There is just to much information that flows through the board, and let's face it, you can't believe everything you read.

Who's this kid from hahnville? i didn't even know they had a soccer program. 3 people from St. Paul's seems like a lot to me, but i've never seen them play. I feel for my boy travis. He should have been 1st team and got jack squat. Daniel deserved all-state, but, as many have stated, he should have gotten it for forward

Hmmm pretty sure last year doesn't affect all state for this year. If that were the case, shouldn't nick flowers be 1st team all state? no he shouldnt since hes not in high school Are you combatting his sarcasm with your own or are you really that stupid?

No, they took an extra step that wasn't required of them. No coach is required to sign up, or vote. But some did do so.

put me in coach2-- you have summed up the problem. Shame on coaches voting on something they don't know based on last year or old material. Also shame on the the coach if he nominated the player for 2 positions (did he really nominate him as a forward/defender?). Anyone who knew the lhs team knew the player did not play defense so either the coach did not discuss it clearly or the other coaches ignored it and voted based on nothing. either way, bad deal. So in the future coaches should know what they are doing or not do it, don't rely on political trash thrown around on the board, but instead base their vote on real data or info. In the end, some defender was shorted because the all state award went to someone who didn't play defense. Not a good way to promote the coaches or process and it does place in question the method all other choices were made and that is bad for making soccer a respected sport which I think is a goal of all of us.
the idea of an all purpose player is good, that would make goat happy (I still don't think credeur was a "defender" he was midfield, defender and goalkeeper all the times I saw him play, least of all a defender this year). If he is good and moved to help the team that should be recognized. Maybe something to think about. Anyway, hope the coaches learn and vote on what they know next time and not based on propaganda or last years info.
