I saw this thread on the Boys side and thought it might be a good discussion. Post what you know of the new crop of talent for 2010-11 season.

If a soccer player can't handle a reasonable critique of their play, unsolicited or not, they shouldn't be reading this message board. The purpose of this board is to discuss the game and the players. Obviously not in an attacking manner, but those who play sports must get used to discussions of their strengths and weaknesses as a player. Barnacle 13 did a good job of critiquing players on this team and it should spur reasonable discussion, not fear that a girl might not be able to handle someone's opinion. I'm sure someone is going to take exception to what I'm saying:)

Since soccer is a team sport, I personally prefer discussing the team play, the good coaching, or lack therof, etc. I think this poster's intent was to praise these girls, but he did also criticize some of them a bit.
If a player is exceptional, I don't see a problem with adults saying they think little Susie is a good player, and I imagine she might enjoy reading that on this board. Don't think most of the HS players read this board since many of the girls playing HS soccer are not really serious, at least not like their parents. However, if little Susie were to read this board, it is doubtful she would appreciate some anonymous man saying she is slow as Christmas and has limited skills. The ones that do come here surely don't do so to read a critique of their play, reasonable or not. That is for their coach. Before the advent of the internet, it would be akin to adults writing an anonymous letter to the newspaper editor criticizing a HS athlete by name. That would never have happened, but many people seem to feel free to say things under the cloak of anonymity that they would never have the cojones to say otherwise. Seems to me it would be prudent for adults tosimply use caution when publicly discussing kids.
The club board may be a bit different since those ostensibly really are serious players, though I would still take issue with adults publicly criticizing kids, especially when most of those same adults couldn't get up and down the field twice without having a heart attack and would themselves look pretty foolish trying to trap, pass or shoot.

There are far more "Little Suzies" that read this board -- not because the days of their lives are molded by what is said here -- but more because they enjoy being entertained. Such is the beauty of the teenage mind -- especially in this day and age -- information in, and then information out like a giant toilet handle. I will bet dollars to doughnuts that not much teenage sleep is lost reading the whimsical musings of us 20th Centurions. That being said, I do not condone critiquing or commenting on any individual play ... and let me save you the exercise of reminding me about my Anna Helm/Lexi Gibbs thread -- but c'mon, folks -- that was a once in a lifetime exhibition of unbelievable play by 2 outstanding seniors.
The point is that a thread about freshmen truly is pointless -- for about a billion different reasons. I know Emily Daigle and am pulling for her to succeed. But folks -- they're friggin 15 years old. C'mon!

Apparently the Wikileaks hacktivists got into this thread.
This seems to be an annual debate. I don't see anything wrong with your report on the SJA-Dutchtown game. It sounded like two impressive performances. BTW, those are both seniors going on to play in college next year, and you were not reporting on yourself or your daughter as some do.
I'm still not a huge fan of naming players, but I can see people wanting to know about "best freshman" or whatever, especially in other geographical parts of the state. I would hope that adults have the maturity and class not to criticize kids on an open internet forum, whether that was their intention or not.

Don't forget the 7th graders. ;-)

I did see some 7th graders playing in the N.O. tournament. These girls were so tiny I think they probably still get on Santa's lap at the mall.

is there a younger team in state than Runnels? They start a7 th grader, 4 8th graders, and 3 9th graders. And ranked 4th in Division III!

Anyone hear about the 3 year old at Tee Ma's Day Care and Flower Barn in Bunkie. Heard she can dribble with either foot at full speed and the private schools are already recruting her... Already offered her a full ride to Menard...and a ride up from Bunkie.

Freshman Keeper- at Chapelle. Currently LA ODP Keeper. When she learns her defense and takes charge of directing those "old senior" defenders she will end up ALL State or more!!

Forward for EDW, #7 Morgan Becnel. Is leading her team in goals and is one of the go-to players when the team is in need of a goal. Great speed and pretty good with the ball. I've seen a few games and she's definitely impressed.

Speaking of young talent at E.D. White, there's an 8th grader playing varsity, Millary Matherne #3. She knows the game pretty well and has great ball skills, assisted #7 on many of those goals.

I have missed you, Aliceshoe! Ah, thank you lpcsoccermom. A little humor always helps to point out that even after the trophies are handed out at the finals, it is still a game. Getting out of h/s and beyond is the big picture, soccer is just an enjoyable distraction. Because dare I say, I have not heard of any candidates for the US National Team coming from Louisiana lately. I agree with many of your points. While there may not be any LA girls on the US National Team, there are many LA girls playing in many colleges/universities around the US. I consider that great success.

I have seen her play on multiple occasions, she's not the fastest player or the best with the ball. But she does know the game very well and she knows what should be done. And I commend her on that. There are alot of kids out there who have tons of talent but do not understand the game. She may be only an eighth grader, but she knows the game. Will some ball work help and speed drills, she could be quite good.

There are many freshman (and some 8th and 7th graders) playing on particular HS teams apparently because there is no one else at their school that can simply run up and down a soccer field. There is the occasional freshman that is truly an impact player game in and game out, and could play for just about any team. I personally prefer to talk teams and not name kids.
I still advocate adults refrain from criticizing other people's kids on an open internet forum. Perhaps we should have a thread or section of the board where the players can critique the parents. That could be great sport.

Teamwork is Key!! I cannot see how seveth and eight graders arround the state be placed on varsity teams. Alot has to do with soccer talent at those schools. Which should make my point. The game is not won by the shooter, but the whole team front to back.
