After 20 years of coaching HS soccer I have never seen a JV/Varsity mix up like I saw at Lafayette. Lots of confused people in the stands. However, when SJA's "varsity" team was playing the Lafayette JV team, the entire SJA team was made up of 9th and 10th graders with 1 senior and 1 junior on field (very rarely together). It just happens that a lot of that 9th and 10th grade talent are on the varsity team.
Many other seniors for SJA were missing as well, not just those in the Dallas tournament. I am impressed with the Red Dawgs. They are starting to look more cohesive and according to my count 4 goals this season were give-aways due to slipping and such craziness. SJA's record could actually be even better.
I would love to see a fully loaded rematch with Lafayette. I think the teams would match up well. Fun game to watch and the weather was perfect.

I hear ya bro. Nasty stuff outside. Blame it on global warming ... or barbedad warming .. SJA's schedule just got a lot easier with Dominican and Vandebilt in the NO soccer tourney . I do NOT want to create the impression of being a whiner. I for 1 love this schedule. If -- and that's a mighty big if -- we finish top 2 in the district, we will be a tough out. But this district will be tough. EA, BRHS, and Dutchtown all are getting quality early results. Ifa, mighta, coulda, woulda, shoulda ... Gotta play these teams some time. Kudos to my red dawgs for running this gauntlet this early. Not many can say that. Stay warm y'all! Peace out and happy Turkey Day! I certainly give SJA kudos on the schedule as well. It's a tough one, but could pay huge dividends when it counts. The Soccer Classic schedule only strengthens an already crazy schedule. Good luck going forward and Happy Turkey Day!

SJA 3 - Acadiana 0. SJA goals by Brie Stewart (assist to Kennedy Achord), Rachel Fenner (curled in a corner), and Kennedy Achord. SJA with 16 shots (9 OG). Acadiana with 6 shots (5 OG). SJA had 2 corners. Acadiana had 1. Acadiana GK saved 6 of 9 shots. SJA's Aleah Harris saved 5 of 5. SJA had maybe a 52-48 edge on possession. Acadiana has a high quality group led by Monique Hundley, one of the most gifted players in the state.
SJA off to Dominican tourney this weekend with games against Dominican and Vandebilt.

Two more district scores:
EA beats Woodlawn 2-0 in Breat Cancer Awareness match at EA. This to me speaks volumes on the improvement Woodlawn has made. Hopefully pompey can drop by to give us a synopsis of the game.
BR wins 8-1 over St.Amant. St. Amant scored in the first 2 minutes and held for about 25 before giving up 8 unanswered goals. Kennedy Smith returned from injury for BRHS with a 15 minute shift late in the game.

Shot count was 37-1, banged 5 off the post too. Grr. I list the stats by no means trying to take away anything from WL. #7 in the back was exceptional too. Best WL crew I've seen in a good little while.

From Dominican tourney. Dominican 1, SJA 1. SJA goal was by Rachel Fenner. Series of quick precision passes started with Courtney Lejeune to Fenner to Kennedy Achord and with Fenner running full speed through the middle, Achord returned the give and go, Fenner split the defenders, and easily slotted it past the keeper.
DHS completely controlled the 1st half outshooting SJA 7-1. SJA picked it up and shots wound up 10-6 for DHS.
Both goalies saved 3 of 4 shots OG. DHS with 2 corners, SJA with 1.
A very good game.
No rest. Vandy up next.

Final thoughts on SJA and New Orleans tourney. Stickers go 1-0-2 against Dominican, Vandy, and Mt. Carmel. If someone had offered a 3-2-3 start after this gauntlet, I would have taken it in a heartbeat. The split against Mt. Carmel is especially sweet considering the history and talent of that squad.
Freshmen are coming into their own. Talk about baptism by fire! Frosh Audrey Viso leads the team with 3 goals, including the game winner against MCA after a beautiful through ball from senior Rachel Fenner.
Fontainebleau plus another strong field in Mandy tourney await.

SJA now begins district play. Early results indicate that BR High is rolling after beating D'town 5-0 in NO tourney. Understand that D'town has been hit with injury bug. EA apparently also very strong.
Should be a classic and brutal district schedule as always.

SJA 5. Woodlawn 0. Goals by Brady Moran, Rachel Fenner, Reagan Munn, Kelli Aultman, and Brie Stewart. Assist Izzy Gutierrez (2), Brady Moran, Rachel Fenner. Woodlawn goalie had 18 saves.

SJA 2, Dutchtown 0. Goals by freshmen Sarah Town and Audrey Viso. 2 assists to freshman Brie Stewart. Shots were SJA 16 (10 OG), D'town 2 (both OG). D'town goalie with 8 saves. Aleah Harris of SJA with 2 saves. SJA with 4 corners, D'town with 1. I would put possession at 60-40 for SJA. D'town played defensively all night and couner attacked when they could. This created some nice opps.

Big game tonight -- EA at Baton Rouge. Thoughts? Should be a good one.

Big game tonight -- EA at Baton Rouge. Thoughts? Should be a good one. I'll say BRHS 3-1. I think BRHS and SJA are going to be 1-2 in the district, I'm just not sure in which order. But EA will probably be a top 10 seed (or very close) come playoff time.

Big game tonight -- EA at Baton Rouge. Thoughts? Should be a good one. I see this one being very close. 3-2 BRHS or 2-1 BRHS. Pretty evenly matched. BRHS will have to match EA physicality with quick precision passing and build up. Should be a good one for sure! I'm thinking Kevin meant district. I don't see any of these teams taking a #1 or 2 seed in the playoffs. SJA I can see 6-8 and BRHS 8-9, with EA 9-10.

I'd expect SJA and BRHS both somewhere in the 6-8 range, EA somewhere 9-12. Partly it'll depend on Byrd and Mandeville and whether they end up in front of SJA/BRHS come playoff time.

I think SJA deserves the better seed if they can finish 1st in district. Byrd is playing a weaker schedule this year. SJA ran an early season gauntlet and fared pretty well. They have to be in the mix for a 5-8 seed. BRHS will require finishing strong. Their non-district schedule is not as strong as SJA. They'd need to win the district in order to see those type of seedings. I see them at 8-9. 9-12 may be right for EA, but if they can pull off a run through district thay can move up at SJA's or BRHS's expense. Mandeville may slide instead of Byrd after this wekend's Carencro tournament results. All speculation this early on, but let the pollsters start lining up their favorites! Comeaux looks to be a team that could get a little recognition (mid level seed) as well. They've been putting up some decent results.

We knew it would be close. This is what I've come to expect from a BRHS/EA matchup. From the outset I had EA in the two spot with SJA leading the pack. Looks like BRHS will be battling to get back into the #2 spot and will need to keep an eye on Dutchtown for that #3 spot. The real battle for me still lies in the #5 spot in this district (and a potential playoff spot) between St. Amant and Woodlawn. St. Amant won the first meeting with some last minute heroics to tie and then take the win in OT. Woodlawn felt they had the better of the game, so will nee to prove they were the better team in the next meeting. I think either of these teams may need a few out of district wins to make the bubble come February.
