How many schools are going to force games on Mardi Gras day? Some aren’t going to have a choice…

I know Mardi Gras dates vary, but it seems like we have issues with Mardi Gras most seasons. Should LHSAA consider either starting the season a few weeks later/earlier to avoid this problem? If they start it later, they could wrap the regular season up prior to Mardi Gras, take a week off for Mardi Gras and then resume the playoffs after?

Mardi Gras is a moving target. The calendar would change every year leading to other issues.

Mardi Gras is a moving target. The calendar would change every year leading to other issues. I think your right, moving the start of the season won't solve it. It moves from Yr to yr. It's just Bush league to force a game on Mardi Gras Day, I can't speak for all of LA. But in the New Orleans Metro Area, it makes it tuff to play on Mardi Gras day, with Parade routes all over the city, traffic, Police... Refs can't be easy to get as well. police for public schools..... plus families in LA celebrate Mardi Gras, it's part of who we are. Thats why there is no school.... Mardi day should not be a viable option. At least that's my view, I guess for others it could be no big deal.

True.
But at the end of the day, we all have to make sacrifices if we want to be successful. That's at least my viewpoint on it.
If we use parading as an excuse to disregard the entire season we worked for, then we don't deserve to win in the first place.

If teams can’t agree on a date/time is there a default day/time that game wil be set to? Was thinking last day of window and some certain time?

Agree. The same could be said about football playoffs during Thanksgiving break. Gotta be able to make sacrifices.

LHSAA just needs to extend the dates of the QF (to the Thurs after Mardi Gras) and SF (play from Fri to the Tues), yeah, might mean you're playing a SF on Tue and a Final on Saturday but that would be the compromise to not having to fight Mardi Gras.
And would only need to be done on these type of years. Next year Mardi Gras is late so won't be a problem.

Yeah I agree but I will mention that usually Thursday before football games is mostly walk throughs and that can easily be done early enough in the morning to not cause an issue for most. I've never been in that position before so I don't really know, I'm just assuming..

Plenty of parades on many other days. Deal with it.

At the end of the day its how bad any team really wants it Parades or no parades. Get the priorities straight.

Mardi Gras is a moving target. The calendar would change every year leading to other issues. Right but at least we know the exact dates of Mardi Gras every year going forward and you can plan accordingly. It's not a full proof idea but I do agree that at least extend the QF deadline. Don't think games should be being played on MG day not because of not wanting to make sacrifices, but because traffic and logistics is a potential nightmare. Attendance will probably be lower as most of the students will probably choose going to celebrate Mardi Gras instead of going to the game. If you want to grow the game and make the playoffs an amazing experience, you want fans in the stands.

Yep. 100% agree. ☺ I also agree and I think it goes without saying, every team is going to show and be ready to play. Mardi Gras or not. I guess my point is most teams played wed, that gives you sat and Monday......as good potions. Why pick Tuesday (knowing its Mardi Gras). i guess it depends on who you draw. I would think the metro New Orleans would be a huge hassle, like willow or Newman during Mardi Gras day. Traffic alone on Tuesday will be a nightmare.....even in metairie is a pain.

The other issue about forcing NOLA on Tuesday might be ref availability...
