No way Magnet nets 3 against Airline in the opener. Brennan is the best keeper in the city and unless Magnet has figured out how to shoot from the outside, they don't get three pass him. Granted Airline lost quite a bit from last year, 10 seniors, 7 starters, but they also should have 12 seniors returning for this year. Hopefully they learned how to beat Magnet last year. Magnet is talented, and should win the game, but it will be close. Airline and Magnet usually play close matches. Magnet is usually too confident, Airline something to prove. It usually makes for a good game. As for Byrd and Shreve, this one goes to Shreve. Byrd has been notorious for slow starts over the previous 4 years. This should be the year they finally overtake Shreve and are able to beat them, but not this early in the season. If this were a January game, I'd probably give the edge to Byrd, but Shreve's pressure keeps Byrd off balance and they won't be able to amount enough of a consistent attack to pressure the Shreve defense. By the way, 16-0 in a scrimmage, that's nuts. I just hope some of the 2nd and 3rd string got good playing time that night. When the scores for tonight come in I hope someone posts them, it's hard to keep track from so far away.

I was told that 4 kids quit. Kirkpatrick will have his hands full. Airline isn't big enough or strong enough in the back to keep Magnet at bay. Johnson is back up top and looked good in the few minutes I saw tonight.
Shame on the coaches for having all 4 top teams playing on the same night in different areas of town.

The jamboree today showed nothing unexpected. Airline's upset of Shreve was not really significant due to the number of injured players Shreve was missing. However, if a number of these players aren't in the lineup Monday against Byrd, it will definitely impact that game and maybe put Shreve behind the 8 ball early on in the district race. I don't remember any team around here in the last 5-6 years that has suffered more early season injuries to key players than Shreve has this year.
Byrd has quietly put together a very good lineup. I think they will be the surprise team in District 1, like Airline was last year.
Magnet is cooking. Granted, they haven't played any tough, full length matches yet, but the ball movement has been excellent and the scoring has been plentiful and evenly distributed. With all the weapons Magnet has, no team can afford to concentrate too much on defending EJ. I think this will take a lot of the pressure off him and make him even better when he starts hitting on all cylinders. Magnet by far has the deepest roster in district.
Two good games on Monday night should give more of an indication of where the strength is early on: Shreve vs Byrd and Magnet vs Airline.

In the jamboree Airline won both their games against Southwood and Shreve (1 to 0). Magnet won both their games against Ruston and Byrd (1 to 0). Shreve beat Southwood in its other game. Byrd beat Ruston in its other game.

Magnet 5-0 against Ruston, and 1-0 vs Byrd. Five different players scored.

All of the matches in the Caddo jamboree were only 20 minutes each. Not 20 minute halves; 20 minutes total.

Don't discount the power of actually beating Shreve in the jamboree. Yeah, I know, it doesn't count, players are hurt, it doesn't really matter. But the pyschological lift of being "Captain Shreve" can go along way. You never want to give a rival hope that he can actually beat you. We'll see how Airline responds on Monday. Magnet should still win, but this could make the game even closer.

Last year some made a big deal of Magnet beating Shreve 1-0 in the jamboree. At least then Shreve was playing with a full roster. It wasn't a big deal then as Shreve went on to beat Magnet in all 3 matches that mattered during the season. If anything it motivated Shreve. I didn't see the match Saturday but in the long run it means even less as several players were being held out. The Shreve coach said Thursday he thought everyone would be OK by the Byrd game with the exception of Bynum who will play but not be 100%. Michiels is back from football, but I heard he was injured in the playoff game Friday night so his status is uncertain. Guess we will see tomorrow how things will shake out.

Regarding the boys from Airline who quit their team, it would be a real shame if these boys were sincerely sorry for their actions and did not get an opportunity to make things right. Kids are kids and they make bad decisions sometimes that they may later regret. Who hasn't? If these players are truly regretful for their actions I would hope that the coaches show some understanding and are willing to at least listen to their appeals individually. If they wanted to now fall in line and go along with some concessions (like an apology to their teammates and not playing in several games initially) I don't think these coaches would lose any respect in the locker room or the community for giving these kids an opportunity to clean up their own mess.

You guys are crazy to think that Magnet scores that much against Airline (thanks Coach). And the loss of two talented players (Ray and Zach) will not hurt us. They were two guys that thought that their individual talent elevated them over other players and that they didn't have to work at practice like everyone else. If anything, their loss actually helps the team.
Airline wins it 3-1.
