Magnet defeats Airline 1-0 in steady rain. Airline plays the whole game with 10 men in the back. The only time they get the ball across center line is when one of their defenders clears it out. They don't put together 3 consecutive passes the whole match. Obviously, they were playing for the 0-0 regulation finish to put the match in the hands of their goalie in a PK shootout. Magnet's coach adjusted and switched from a 4-4-2 to a 3-4-3 set. In about the 20th minute of the first half EJ sends a ball in that Nick Flowers heads into the back of the net for the only goal of the game.
The Airline goal was a shooting gallery all night. Keeper made some incredible saves to keep them in it.
Can't blame Airline for the strategy. In the previous 2 matches against Magnet they didn't manage a shot in either match. Sure they will do the same thing against Byrd and Shreve. Glad I don't have to watch them anymore.

Good win for Magnet. Airline did what they needed to do to give their team a shot to win. That strategy worked against Byrd in the Parkway tournament, but its much tougher to hold Magnet and their offense in check. Now that they are past that match, Magnet is left with only the final Shreve and Byrd matches to worry about in district.
Never thought I would want to tell anyone that at the end of this evening I hope Magnet increases its district lead from 1 to 2 games but thats what needs to happen tonight. Shreve is in a must win situation against Byrd this evening. Either Shreve is eliminated or the Gators put Byrd down 2 in the loss column to Magnet with them. Who do the Mustangs cheer for tonight?
Speaking of Magnet, good luck to the guys next week at the St. Pauls tournament. I'm sure you will represent District 1 well. Play Well!!
I have updated the standings on page 1.

I want to see Byrd down to make things more exciting. We hope that the Mustangs are there tonight supporting a win for Shreve.

Indy supposedly will be available for use on Tuesday Jan 9th. The Shreve coach is trying to work things out with the Magnet coach to move the match back a day and play it on the 9th at Indy. I am pretty sure that is Magnet's home match and their coach will have the final say on where the match will be played. The Shreve coach is trying to move as many Shreve matches as possible out to Indy.
They would like 2 matches to be played each evening when Indy is used. Helps to pay the electric bill for lighting that place. My guess is we are going to see some Saturday marathons out there as well if the wet weather continues.

Has the byrd - shreve game still not been rescheduled? It would be better for them to play before magnet plays either one of them because they would still have a shot at first, but if magnet plays byrd or shreve before they play and magnet wins, then they know they are playing for second.

Magnet-Byrd will be played tonight at Caddo assuming the field has dried enough. Magnet - Shreve will be moved to Indy on Tuesday the 9th. Shreve - Byrd likely will be played Jan 18th at Indy but that hasn't been finalized.

Here's how the top 4 D1D1 teams have done against one another to date: TEAM | PLAYED | WINS | LOSSES | GOALS FOR | GOALS AGAINST | GOAL DIFF | Caddo | 5 | 5 | 0 | 11 | 1 | 10 | Byrd | 2 | 1 | 1 | 3 | 3 | 0 | Shreve | 4 | 1 | 3 | 3 | 6 | -3 | Airline | 3 | 0 | 3 | 1 | 8 | -7 |
- Caddo has the easiest remaining schedule with one game against a district top 4 (Byrd)
- Byrd has the toughest remaining schedule with 4 games against district top 4s (Caddo, Shreve, Airline twice)
- Shreve is in both top 4 matchups this week (Airline 1/15 & Byrd 1/17)
- It's hard to beat a good defense

With rain/sleet/snow predicted for tonight and/or tomorrow I tend to doubt any matches will be played. If they can move it to Indy maybe, if they don't it's doubtful it will be played.
A chance of rain is in the forecast for tomorrow, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We are going to have some serious problems getting these matches in if we dont have 8 or 9 days in row of dry weather after Sunday.

What would it take to have most of these matches moved to Indy this week? It looks like Indy is available . Coaches, need to move your fingers and get things going as the weather/fields will not improve for the rest of the week. :-)

Not only is it just as convenient as Cargill for most families, it's a great surface to prepare for the playoffs. Four of Caddo's remaining games are currently scheduled at Cargill so they'll probably be cramming in rain makeups in the days before the playoffs like last year.

I think there is a three way tie now for second place as Byrd, Shreve and Airline all have three losses. Magnet is clear winner with a 12-0 sweep. Important game are Sat. Byrd vs. Airline, Monday Shreve vs. Airline and Tuesday Shreve vs. Byrd
