Catholic's size did not affect the game at all and Shreve was probably more physical then they were. Things were very under control with the fouling until about 20 minutes left when Shreve was getting a little frustrated but it was nothing out of control and no one got hurt. Good game by Catholic and they should do alright against Acadiana/Ruston

Good game last night by both teams. First, I must disagree with Shreve Dad's info on the game. From where I stood the first half was controlled by Shreve with Catholic getting the goal on a bad play by Shreve's defense. Shreve had a lot more opportunities than Catholic, but as this year has shown they could not finish. I think the forwards think they get style points if they control the ball inside the 18. Michiels put some beautiful balls into the 18 on free kicks only to find no one there to finish. If all the underclassman would just work on shooting the ball they will be much better next year. The second goal was really unfortunate because the linesman puts his flag up and then down and everyone paused except for the Catholic player. What have we learned since U6; play to the whistle? One last question to end the year for me. If your down 2-0 with 15 minutes left in the game why is the best player on the team still playing sweeper? Does it matter if it's 4-0 at the end? You need 2 goals and for 65 minutes we haven't put any in. Don't you try something different? One last thing, the senior class at Shreve lost in the Fisrt, Second, Third, and Fourth rounds of the playoffs during their four years leaving only the finals unattained.

i don't think shreve had more opportunities than catholic at all..catholic hit the post as well as the two goals. shreve's opportunities were definitely less dangerous than catholic's and it showed in the score.

They had more opportunities in the since that they were a step or pass away from taking a shot. I am in no way implying they had more shots or better shots. Catholic was much better at taking the shot when it presented itself than Shreve. As I stated in my earlier post, Shreve enjoys dribbling in the 18 instead of pulling the trigger. And furthermore when they did shoot it went 15 feet over the goal. I don't think the Catholic keeper was challenged more than 2 times yesterday, but that was because Shreve can only build an attack, not attack. And in closing, I believe Shreve is the 8th to 12th best team in d1, I'm not sure who was overrating them, Northshore08.

i don't know if i would say that shreve was overrated. they could give several of the higher ranked teams in the state a run for their money. shreve plays pretty soccer, they just weren't able to make the most out of their opportunities. if their young players learn to finish off the attacks they build so well they will be a dangerous team in years to come. as stated earlier in the post, catholic may be "the queen of the pigs". it isn't always pretty, but they find ways to get things done. good luck to shreve in the future, they have great potential and play a quality game of soccer.

As a third party observer...I agree that Shreve had the better run of it in the first half...more build ups....Catholic began to have a little more of the build ups in the second half....however it was stated earlier...Shreve has a problem finishing...too many touches...same problem we had this year at Dutchtown...create some nice opportunities, but make a poor decision on the ball instead of just ripping a shot and giving the ball a chance to hit the net. Several opportunities late for Shreve where they just held the ball too long.
Far as the ref's flag goes on the second goal....I saw it too..he raises his flag and immediately puts it down while waving his off hand at the center to say, "my bad"....I was almost even with the play and from what I could tell the kid was onside so it wasn't offside...that being said..the AR should have never raised his flag, but like it was previously mentioned we coach our kids to play until the whistle. what it comes down to is Catholic took advantage of their opportunities and Shreve did not...but you can say that about every game can't you...
