I was the moderator that removed the thread, and did so at the behest of other coaches who had been contacted by the Advocate. Our Principal at Walker had posted the list on his and Walker HS' social media pages and he got the same request from the Advocate to take it down. Seems frivolous, as most soccer folks will get their info from LAPrep before they get it from The Advocate, but hey, its their ballpark.

Thoughts-
SPS with more of the run of play. Dtown mostly countering to 1 or 2 players up top
Dtown is solid enough to hold play for periods of time to keep SPS from finding their flow.
Ethan Shanahan from Dtown now moving higher in the midfield. Should generate more attack for the griffins
Stands are chockablock full. Much better turnout this year than last

It's always interesting this time of year-EVERY year-to hear the theories on why we should have a split, the virtues of public vs private, the power rating system, the 32-team bracket and OF COURSE, promotion/relegation.
First off, the PR system generally works--with exception of #9 Dutchtown on the Boys side in D1, and #23 Northlake on the girl's side in D IV, the top seeds (#6 and above) are making the semis. There will always be anomalies, and occasionally upsets. Still, the higher seeds are carrying the brackets. You play the regular season for seeding in the post season, so schedule correctly and you give your school the best chance to advance in the playoffs. Our PR works. Leave it be--the best teams are getting to the end.
The 32-team bracket is fine (though the difference is probably far greater in D IV--but we have had a 23 seed break through on the girl's side). The stronger teams get a chance to play second- and third-line players to get the ready for the following seasons, the weaker teams usually enjoy the experience and barring the occasional upset (which is good for the excitement of the playoffs) the best teams make it to the end. The size of the bracket isn't having ANY negative impact on the playoffs, except maybe on the attitudes of the very small yet vocal soccer purists, most of whom dont coach or play.
Public vs Private and a split is always going to be a topic for discussion, but I don't believe a split would be good for soccer. There are still too few teams compared to the major sports (football, basketball, baseball). This would, in my opinion cause a big problem with the second division of privates, as there would be some very very small schools being forced to play against larger enrollment privates than they do now, and that would make score disparities even worse than now. Imagine Ascension Christian having to play vs University (and before we added D IV, those two schools were in the same district}. This was also before the mercy rule and double-digit victories were regular. Those sorts of beat downs weren't conducive to growing the sport across the state. The smaller privates regularly struggle to field teams, sometimes doing so in a coed format. This past year Central Private folded their program, Catholic Point Coupee did so two years ago, Plaquemine has not been able to keep their program consistently alive, and Ascension Christian may fold their program next season. We don't have to make sure these programs win, but we do want them to flourish. More soccer is good. Forcing them to play to far above their capability level doesn't help
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I believe we are going about leveling the playing field the wrong way by using the splits. LAs public school system is one of the lowest rated in the US, and post covid pandemic public schools across the country have all taken a marked drop in student performance. Regardless of an individual's politics, there is a growing desire for school choice, charter schools and faith-based education. Families will send their children to better performing schools and the privates in LA are winning that battle. The exception to that have been highest performing suburban, predominantly white, large publics (ex-Dutchtown, St Amant, Denham Springs, Mandeville, Alexandria, etc), that have the highest tax bases statewide, and generally no real private school competition in some of their parishes. Better schools' dont have to recruit--families will find those schools ahead of putting their child in a low performing public. Is there potential financial assistance available? Certainly, but a students grades will make more of a difference than their athletic performance. Those "best" schools only stay that way by attracting the "best" students.
So what might be the "right way"? The biggest issue is that while privates DO have an established home attendance zone, they can attract and admit students from pretty much anywhere. A student from Walker can go to Catholic HS, but that same student would have no ability to go to Dutchtown, due to parish lines, municipal tax rates, and individual school boards and districts. If you are a taxpayer in Ascension Parish, you certainly wouldn't approve of students from Livingston Parish coming over to Schools in the AP. There are also some manipulations of the "feeder school" concept by archdiocese who are considered part of the makeup of a particular HS, even though those archdioceses are far flung and outside of the home attendance zone of the particular private school.
So here are some rule changes i think would better help than having a split:
1) Expand all public-school LHSAA home attendance zones to include the entirety of the parish where those schools are located. The tax base that funds each parishes public schools is indiscriminate of the publlc school the money goes to. Ascension Parish tax money goes to all AP schools, not to just EA or Dutchtown. At that point the ability of an individual student to enroll at a public school that they choose is somewhat up to them, though the School Board in that Parish has the right to allow or deny that student the right to enroll there. This gives public school student athletes the same "right" to school choice as private school enrollees, and makes the issue of allow an "out of district" enrollment a problem for local school boards and NOT the LHSAA
2) In conjunction with #1, establish home attendance zones for Privates that are the same as they currently are assigned. This would help get the enrollment area of the privates closer to being as wide as the privates
3) Eliminate the first year of eligibility for any new enrollee to a private if they live outside of the LHSAA's home attendance zone. This forces the family of a prospective enrollee to understand there will a more limited sports opportunity and ensures the school choice is for academics and not just athletics.
4) Allow for only one school transfer for private school enrollees during the student athletes 8 consecutive semesters (including 8th to 9th if outside the home attendance zone). Once again this forces the student athletes school choice to be based on academic desire rather than athletic endeavor) I call this the "once you are there, you're there rule". In this case student athletes opting for a private will have to understand that as they enter the school, they will be ineligible for one year unless they live in the LHSAA home attendance zone (regardless of the grade year they enter), and if they reside outside the LHSAA attendance zone, the transfer to the private, whether for 9th grade or any other, is the only they are allowed. Once there are there, they can't leave and still be eligible at any other school. This isn't meant to penalize the student athlete, but rather to ensure that the private school choice is made with academics in mind and not sports. They will have to sit a year no matter what when they enter (unless they live in the LHSAA home attendance zone-which will be the smallest of percentiles and shouldn't be an issue as the student athlete living in the attendance zone shouldn't be penalized for attending a neighborhood school), and they better be committed to the 4 years because they aren't going anywhere else. This could become a burden on some families, but those burdens that are real can be handled in a hardship hearing.
I think this would help bring the publics up and make the privates less attractive for the student who is just in it for sports.
5) Eliminate the 6-player rule and allow HS coaches to coach their teams in club ball as well. The bigger clubs DOCs have more of an advantage as they can move from team to team to conduct a session, Surrogates are being hired to "coach" teams but the HS coach, who might be on staff at a particular club is still able to come in and conduct a session. Thats still coaching your team. The best players play on the best teams at the biggest clubs and have the access to their HS coaches that other smaller schools cant ensure. We have round the calendar coaching now, so why not allow the coaches to coach year round? As an OG I can tell you that back in my days at St Amant, before this stupid ass rule, I coached a U16 and a U19 team made up of all my players and they were expected to play club. We got considerably better. I think we have seen more of a rise of the privates sine this rule was created. Soccer in LA is an elitist sport geared more towards suburban white kids of means, and that means wealthier white kids can play expensive high end club ball as well as afford to attend expensive private schools. The two things go hand in hand There I said it...it needed to be said and i said it. Create ways that allow more kids of lesser means to play club and youll have club ball grow AND the quality of the game go up.
Ill tackle the ridiculous idea of promotion and relegation in another post

Following up on the Walker experience, I'll take it a step further. The next to last Monday of the season, we at Walker were at #36 in the power ratings and going nowhere. The kids were faced with the task of having to win their last 3 games in order to just make the playoffs. They knew that even if we did we were gonna be heading to Catholic, or St Pauls for the first round. They really came together, winning all three (2 of them 2-1 in late second half freekicks) and playing as well as they did all season. The atmosphere was exciting as we were literally playing "playoff games" to make the playoffs. We were excited to play St Pauls and did a great job hanging in until the 18-minute mark of the second half only down 0-1. St Pauls then just turned on the jets and we ended up losing 0-8, with the final goal coming with only 45 seconds left in the match. Moser and his boys were pleasant, humble and very positive to my kids before during and after the match, and we were able to play a total of 24 kids. My boys were disappointed about the loss, but were generally upbeat as we left Hunter stadium. The last 2 weeks of our season were one of the best periods of time with my team since I've been at Walker and the impact this will have on a team made up of most freshmen and sophomores will definitely be felt as we get older and more mature. Id rather have this years opportunity rather than just playing out the string of regular season games and calling it a season.

What a great game tonight by both teams. Maybe not the best soccer but definitely top notch effort by both teams.
Many thanks to GSB for coming to stream the match. I think those who tuned in got treated to an exciting event.
Props to the EA kids and Coach Pedro for coming to play, even with nothing to play for besides pride. EA busted it's ass to try to get a result
Finally, I want to give my kids all the props in the world for nutting up and playing their way INTO the playoffs. 11 days ago we were at #36 and in danger of not making the postseason. We had to win all of our last three games to make it and we got it done. Being that we have 17 freshmen out of 34 players on our roster, it makes it even better to make the playoffs.
Winning tonight will put us higher than 32, but we don't care. We will have to go on the road and play one of the biggest of the big boys, but we will go and play hard and do our best with our little army of midgets, gain some extremely valuable experience and take this very young team forward into the future. We are very proud if our boys
