Well Bobby, hat was romantic--and why shouldnt it be? Your son had dreams based on experiences. Great, The way it should be. My problem isnt with that at all
My issue (along with people not really reading what i write) is that there are these constant contradictions by TDP advocates (and you are one of them) about how much better TDP is and how HS play wont get you to the next level, yet you want a special rule to help you play HS......
Reasons? heres a few How about injury liability, decreased academic performance and the possibility of undue influence. That won't happen some say. Guess what-it already--an example is the with the approval of NIL at the HS level. In my (more expansive) experience than many, I have learned that wherever there is a rule made, there is ALWAYS somebody trying to get around it. ALWAYS. Before you try to change rules its always best to know where they came from--and this is why I always advocate for looking at the issue from a HS sports angle rather than a soccer angle. Where did these rules come from? The showcase tournament rule exists in all sports--soccer isn't the only one. Don't recall anyone wanting to come up with a rule change that would be consistent with Volleyball, Wrestling, swimming or Girls softball AS WELL AS soccer. Thats because the TDP purists don't care about that, they care about their soccer kid only, and right now. So many of the current rules that govern participation in independent team play come from issues with girls softball, most notably in an around the Lake Charles area, in the early 2000s, Coaches used undue influence to turn girls away from other schools by promising next level preparation, or effectively have players follow them from school to school and club team to club team as the coach moved with promises of recruiting and college placement. Little coaches empires being built on the backs of talented HS athletes who were eager to play at the "highest level possible" (<--your words BM describing why you want your son playing TDP.)
Right now, two things are completely true of the status quo: First, there is nothing wrong with participation of players in TDP, Its a family choice and it certainly encompasses many of the states best players. Second: NO player is being denied the ability to play HS soccer--they are just having to wait a bit if they choose to go to a showcase in California in early December....thats it. This has been a factor in HS soccer for well longer than the TDP era. They don't have to go. If you feel like its the ONLY GOOD way to get to the next level, then why does playing HS even matter? And if playing with your friends is so important, then why do you need to go to MLS Next fest?
You arent being denied the opportunity to do both.
I also wonder how many who are so adamant about TDP and its needs for exemptions will still be willing to put in the time and effort to get a rule changed that would affect their child that is currently playing once that player moves on.
An earlier poster used the term "ad nauseum" to describe this thread. Yup....we are there again

Maybe I’m just old school or clueless, but I think High School sports means more to families and boys in LA, then most states. Yes, that statement makes you old school. I agree, HS soccer has been great for LA, but tides are changing. lojic, I disagree. It seems like that despite the touting of TDP by its advocates, HS play is still an overwhelming favorite. TDP is available to the smallest percentile of HS aged players and is exclusive. Most HS soccer families could care less about TDP. That being said, the TDP advocates are STILL trying to get their kids playing HS ball--despite their repeated derision of the HS game as being subpar and needless for recruiting purposes. IFf TDP is so dayum important, why have ANY involvement in HS soccer at all? As far as rule/policy changes (and I've said this before), you have to treat HS soccer as a HS SPORT, not as HS SOCCER. Rules that are made usually will need to be relevant for all sports. At this point, LA HS athletic directors and principals generally don't want to allow independent team sports (ANY independent sport) more leeway, especially when that leeway doesn't have a bearing on more than a fraction of a percentage point of the athletes taking part in what the rule change is for. They see MLS NEXT fest as an extension of the MLS season (yes I know it isn't), and their general feeling is that is takes away from HS athletics. IMHO, this TDP issue really isn't a big deal as its being made to be and doesn't deserve the attention it is getting. Relics like me remember when there was NO exclusion of participation in showcase tournaments--players just reported after they were finished with their club team, and everything was fine. Now, with the explosion of financially successful so-called "showcase events" there is a higher percentage of players who can now attend and that's what has driven the LHSAA to begrudgingly allow for ODP and showcase event exclusions (does anyone miss HS for an ODP event anymore)? Now before some azzhat gets on here and says I don't care about "player development" understand that 1) I do think TDP is an effective tool for individual player growth and recruiting and that 2) the school where i coach DOES have TDP players, so i do have insight. I don't have anything against the TDP-its an INDIVIDUAL family choice. I just don't think we should remodel the HS landscape to allow for an exception for the smallest percentile of athletes, especially when that exception will inevitably not end there in the future Personally, I would probably not take on a TDP player who didn't report till the first or second week of December, and then had to leave by the second week in January. Thats where this is going, and that does NOT help build the HS game. I would consider that approach selfish by the individual player, but that's just me If you want to play TDP that bad, then just do it, forget HS and move on. I don't really see a problem with that

Was just made aware that the Saturday of this event is an ACT testing date. Will that be taken into consideration when making the schedule?

Looks like we are filled up for this years event
Friday Nov 11--"Freshman Friday": Walker Freshmen, Dutchtown Freshmen, St Amant Freshmen in a round robin plus Live Oak/Broadmoor Varsity
Saturday Nov 12--Deridder, Walker, Fontainebleau in Varsity round robin, plus Walker, Fontainebleau, St Amant in JV round robin
Sunday Nov 13--Denham Springs, East Ascension and Central-BR in Varsity round robin, with Denham Springs, East Ascension and Dutchtown in a JV round robin
Some good preseason matchups all three days. Very cool that Coach Brandon Martinez is bringing over his Deridder group to play...we will be very glad to host them for the first time in Walker
Schedule will be out in frst week of November. Friday could be impacted by football playoffs, and if so, we have a contingency plan to move Friday nights matches to Saturday and Sunday
Thanks to all the teams who opted to participate

Does an out of state scrimmage count for one of your two preseason scrimmages? Cause if an out of state scrimmage does not count, Hannan could be in. You still interested?
