415 was probably correct Woodlawn's Goalkeeper Valerie Split-Log shouldn't be considered to be among the best in the state, because she is skilled enough to start on any team in the state right now, as a field player. She just happens to play Goalkeeper for a middle to lower echelon team, that doesn't have the luxury of BRHS, St. Joes, or St. Amant in their district, that have talented enough players at several positions. Unfortunately Coach Baham needs her on the filed at times to try to generate some offensive punch. Her past Club coach (or check with Coach Winchell) would tell you that if they were able to they certainly wouldn't hesitate to have her cloned (Woodlawn's science classes are working on that very problem right now).
Let's punish her for having a coach that would rather try to get back into a game than let his keeper pad her "stats" while getting pummeled, thanks to a porous defense.
As for Jasper's request for stats on all these keepers, here are some on Valerie Split-Log.
2003/2004 - Bishop Sullivan - Freshman (played 720 minutes consecutively in goal - 795 min. total) with an outstanding defense in front of her. Record: 17-1-2 Shutouts: 14 Saves: 64 Goals Allowed: 9 Goals/Shots allowed per game: .123
2004-2005 - Woodlawn - Sophmore - Record: 5-7 Shutouts: 3 Goals Allowed: 16 Goals/Shots allowed per game: .011

Oops! forgot Woodlawn Goalkeeper Saves so here are her stats again for this year.
Record: 5-7 Shutouts:3 Saves: 127 Goals Allowed:16 Goals/Shot allowed per game: .011
Figures don't always tell the story!

Baton Rouge High Senior Mallory Hodges is probably one of the top three keepers in the state, but is playing sweeper because that is where her team needs her. Sophomore Amy Lester of Baton Rouge is doing an excellent job in goal for BR.

Thank you soccerfossil for directly/indirectly supporting my point. Coaches have to try to make their teams successful not concern themselves with individuals "stats".

PumasFC is correct. You play to win with the best players where you need them. Generally very good players understand that and go where the team needs them. My point about "stats" was to get an idea of how good these keepers are, not just relying on word of mouth.

Freshman goal keeper, Sarah Cole, of Division III ESA, has turned out to be a superb goal keeper, who can punt the ball better than anyone I've seen this year. She is quick, tall and very athletic.

She is quick, tall and very athletic. did she play keeper for ESA's tournament? if so i agree that she is very skilled, both in the air and for the low balls. Did anyone see the performace by St. Joe's keeper Kristin Robison at BRHS today? Almost anyone who saw her in that game would have to agree she deserve to be named on here after somehow blocking a hard, high shot with her foot, and robbing BRHS of some of their breakaway oppourtunities.

Season will be over by Tuesday so let's see some of the info and defend your reason for putting your KEEPER up for who is the best in the High School ranks.

district 3 Kaylin Courville from barbe is a very strong keeper. Not much gets by her. Deborah Hill is definatly the best keeper in the state. You would all know that if only she was allowed to play on the Varsity team! ;D I also agree with 11Lafayette. I don't go to acadiana, but i have played with deborah before. She will do what ever it takes to not let her team down. She loves the game and she plays it with all her heart. Nothing will keep her from playing. I have even seen her get a broken nose and her insist not to sit and watch on the side line and kept playing.

No one appears to want to backup their opinions on who the best keeper is. According to the Baton Rouge Sunday Advocate, the BRHS keeper only faced 60 shots all season, that indicates to me a STOUT defense in front of her. At least thet gives you a measuring stick for judging Keeprs across the state. Come let's see what everyone else has.
Here's the final stats for Valerie Split-Log out of Woodlawn. I'm afraid the percentages & goals allowed may look a bit different after facing Comeaux this week.
Player Record S/Os Saves GOAL/Allw G/A/Ga Val Split-Log 7-10-1 4 213 33 1.83
Goals/ShotsAllowed /Game P/k Shutout Goals .132 1/0 5/2 ** played ½ against Central, Walker & St Joe’s (change at 66th minute 1st game, 30th min 2nd game) Tara (change 38th minute) + 2 goals allowed during PK Shootout v. Tara in final game of district play 0-0 end of regulation not counted above ++ Stopped 3 of 5 shots versus Tara in shootout & guessed right on other 2

My stats are incomplete but Lauren Wells of Redemptorist has done very well this year. She was Second Team All-District and All-Metro last season and should, IMO, be all district this season in District 7, Div II.
Record 8-7-1 Shutouts 10 Goals allowed 16 Saves 119+ (incomplete stats on 3 games)
She split time in only two games because they were blow-outs. She played every minute of the other games.
In two games against Dutchtown she allowed 5 goals and had 23 saves. In two games against East Ascension she allowed 2 goals and had 33 saves. She lost the last game against EA in a 3-2 pk shootout. I don't have the details of how that shootout went.
She shut out the other two district opponents, Lee and McKinley, twice each. Shutout playoff teams Zachary and CHSPC.

She won't get much Pub but Woodlawn's Keeper is getting some respect from some of the forwards around the BR area PumasFC... If you are coach for team, do not worry, everyone knows who that keeper is, maybe not by name, but they know who she is. I have heard parents speak of her being a BRSC U-15 player/Keeper, chosen and trained by old LSU coach, also heard she played on Boys team and girls teams two years up. People that know soccer know who she is. People in North of State does not get to see much of players from South, but you hear people speaking of them. She should be an easy All-District pick.

Thank you for the kind words Coach 4365, they are deeply appreciated. My point in posting her stats though was to see how all these Great Keepers that everyone spoke of earlier in this thread did at the end of the season. The Woodlawn keeper will tell you the best keeper in the state played Sweeper for BRHS, because that was where she was needed. Thanks AIC Wildcat for giving us some idea of how Lauren wells of Redemptorist did. At least he defended his position in championing his Keep unlike most the others.
COME ON lets see some figures on these other keepers.
Did anyone see Roy Carroll of MAN U get nutmegged by Dennis Bergcamp yesterday?
A humbling experience for keepers everywhere (were not perfect all the time) to say the least.

After watching Lauren Wells in several games I would have to agree that she is one of the better keepers that I have seen, she is a smart player, very physical, and seems to have a great command of her team.

32 saves with 8 goals allowed doesn't seem too hot, but I'm pretty sure the Comeaux wouldn't mind taking Woodlawn's Keeper with them through the rest of the playoffs.
