Just making it back from Geismer...Lindsey Pharis scored first for ASH(Alexandria Senior High), then it was the Breaux/Bethay show. ASH played their best, just did not have the talent or teamwork to keep up with Dutchtown. The D'Town keeper had some fantastic saves, and got every break. The ball off the post that rolled back over her was a stunner. ASH could not get it past her. Also, I doubt our girls have ever run that much with the talented passing of the Griffins. Maybe next year.

D-Town gave up first goal on a wild play. Field was in bad shape. Mud and water. ASH GK punted to midfield, ball took a wicked hop over fullback. Girl from ASH had the jump and went in for a breakaway. ASH gave them a good match. Got a bad bounce/break on a shot that literally took their breath away. D-Town shut'em down after that. Methodical. Played most of the game on their offensive side. Took at least 25 shots.

SSA 3 Vandy 0
Score does not reflect how competetive and hard fought this match was. Lots of back and forth action with Vandy probably having a slight advantage in possession. Several yellow cards issued.
SSA made the most of their chances. First goal came fairly early off either Meghan Tennyson's or Casey Crawford's knee.
After the goal, the Terriers went on the attack, but the Dove defense, anchored by keeper Jenny Williams, withstood. Anne Baldwin and Jennifer Davis gave very little space to Vandy's strikers. End of half, SSA 1 VC 0.
The match remained rather sloppily played by both sides. SSA scored midway when Kristen Kennedy nailed a half volley into the back net off a serve from Baldwin from the corner.
The final goal was a 25 yard crusher from Tennyson. Top shelf shot like a well hit 2-iron. VC keeper never had a chance.
The SSA keeper had to fend off an indirect from 10 yards out by rushing the shooter after the first touch. Then she had to defend a PK called because of obstruction.?? Both calls were made when the keeper had possession of the ball. Strange stuff.
Officiating was very spotty. Center's never seen a clean tackle if anyone falls down as a result. Aggressive players do not stand a chance. The PK and the indirect in front of the goal came out of the sky!
Also, VC, please lose your play-by-play hometowner. All of us can see the action. If he want to call the fouls and who's taking the free kicks, fine. But the play-by-play and editorials, please.

Neville 3 Opelousas 1 - field was bumpy and small. Had many shots and they just didn't go in like usual. Outshot Opelousas probably 25-4 for the game. Wa controlled by Neville most of the game - nothing like driving to a game a 6:00 am - playing - and then hurrying back for a Winter Formal for the girls the same night - long day!

Sacred Heart 1, St. Scholastic 0 in double overtime.
SSA had a few chances in the first 10 minutes of the match, but after that played in their defensive half due to the outstanding play of the Cardinals' midfield.
Sacred Heart dominated possession time with their patient attack and good ball movement. SSA's defenders stayed solid through regulation time except for giving up a number of corners. The Doves did not earn a corner kick all afternoon. SSA's best opportunity came in the 24th minute from an Ann Baldwin throw-in that was batted about the SHA goal area, but Kristen Meeks finally cleared.
Sacred Heart's Margaret Houser shook free of the Dove defense in the first OT and had a shot on the right post that was deflected wide by the diving SSA keeper Jennifer Williams. No score through 110 minutes.
SHA ended the match in the first 5-minute 2OT when Houser was left free from 18 out on the right side that she placed neatly into the side net of the far post. Williams got a finger on it, but not enough to deny the game-winning shot.
The match was well-officiated and well played by both sides. The crowd supported good play by all. Finally, kudos to the Tad Gormely staff that worked on the field to get it into nice playing condition.

pretty good break down of the game and action except that Sacred Heart does not have a "Kristen Meeks"...The paper also mentioned her by name and gave the name of another person who is not on the sacred heart roster.
