Barbedad is in the house......
An awesome atmosphere with a huge crowd on hand at Barbe Soccer Complex and rowdy fans from both teams to witness a great game by 2 of the best teams in the state. We had 3 college coaches on hand to witness a hard fought game on both sides of the ball. Lafayette controls first 15 minutes of the game and at 20 minutes Barbe gets its first breakaway and a rocket shot by Jana Barrow was saved by Chelsea Ortego with a diving stop but the ball bounces in front of her on the 15 yard line and Freshman Wing Alyssa McAtee hits a rocket for the 1-0 lead. Rest of the first half was controlled by Lafayette with Barbe getting a free kick on the 25 and Forward Jana Barrow hits just over the crossbar. In the second half Jana gets another chance at a free kick and sails just over the crossbar for another close Barbe chance. Final 30 minutes of the game was all Lafayette with Barbe playing defense to hold on to the 1-0 win.
Lafayette has been the District 3 Champs for the past 4 years and played well enough tonight for a possible 5th straight. Barbe and Lafayette have played 3 times this year with a both teams scoring 2 goals in the 3 games. I have said before, these are 2 of the best teams in the state and 2 extremely well coached teams.
Barbe wishes the best to Lafayette and the other 3 District 3 teams hitting the playoffs this week. We should see all 5 teams do well deep into the playoffs.

Acadiana 5 New Iberia 2 Thanks to the New Iberia fans and parents for not only honoring their seniors, but for also honoring our Lady Ram seniors. The fans, parents and players really appreciated the gesture.

I just need to interject something here.....it wasn't a complete stranglehold. Lafayette did share the district title with Acadiana one of those years.

Unless Lafayette High counts a coin flip as representation of a district championship.....very possible.

Give credit where credit is due....Barbe is the 06-07 District Champs and it was well earned....LHS had their run as well...but if I remember correctly Acadiana owned the district for years and actually won 50 consecutive district games in a row...spanning over the course of a 3 year span.....that as well as what Barbe and LHS have earned is pretty remarkable.....just an "observer"

Here is my post from Nov 7th. Not too bad with the predictions: Once again District 3 should prove this district is the toughest in the state. Last year saw 5 teams make playoffs (Returning State Champ and State Runner-Up) with 4 teams winning first round match ups. Here is my predictions of the district race: 1) Lafayette-Defending State Champ. Enough Said. Lost 5 seniors but had a JV team that would have finished in the top 5 if they played district last year. 2) Barbe- State Runner-Up. Return 8 starters from last years team and 7 of these starters are just juniors this year. Offense should be explosive. 3) Comeaux- Return majority of team from a WC run into the playoffs. Always a mystery in this district. 4) Acadiana- Hit hard by graduation and lost one of the top center mids in the state. Not enough to replace a strong senior class from last year. 5) NISH-Should push Acadiana for the 4th spot and a playoff berth. 6) Carencro-Always play top teams close and then lose to a cellar dweller. Needs to have a good year from Ashley coming back from surgery. 7) Sulphur- New coach and a ton of excitement coming into the new season. 8) Westgate- Don't know enough about them to see a vast improvement. Let's hear your predictions and I will bring this back up in late January to see how close we all are......

LHS / South Terrebonne - the gators were outgunned in this one. Could have been much worst than it was. Was 6 or 7 -0 at half... Did not try scoring until the subs went in 10 minutes into the second half. The Gators played hard you can give them credit for that. The have this one German Exchange student that is as good a player there is around the state. I don't know her number or her name but i just want to say GREAT job out there. Good luck next year and keep playing hard good things will happen, it just takes time.

FYI, with the Barbe win tonight, Coach Curtis Stewart reached his 100th career win. He had 40 wins in his 4 years at Sulphur and 60 wins in 3 years at Barbe. A huge milestone for a true class coach at Barbe. He was selected Div I State Coach of the Year last year and who knows this. Congrats Coach Curtis, you are truely appreciatted by the Barbe Soccer Family.

Who would have thought sokerfan would have picked the 2nd round match-up between Lafayette and Terrebonne a few months ago??? Guess we'll just have to see if our paths will cross in the playoffs. I know for a fact that the Lafayette coach tried to set up a scrimmage but the dates that were available for Laffy were not available for your Tigers. It couldn't be fit in. And they were working on going down to Tiger territory, so I don't think being scared is the issue. Good luck this season and maybe the Lions and Tigers will face off down the road

Hey Barbedad20, I must be getting old, I forgot about that post. I am looking forward to the trip down to Houma next week. It will be a nice long 7 hr trip. One hour to Patterson, 4 hours of golf, one hour of drinking adult beverages, and the last hour to Houma. I think it will be a great trip. OH YEAH, get to watch som soccer as well. GO LIONS!!!!

Anyone planning on attending the Terrebonne-Lafayette Game I would sugggest bringing your own concessions. Last night they did not have any. You would think that if you are hosting a playoff game they would at least have concesssions available. No scoreboard to show game time. Not a very good host.

FYI extech: The lady that handles our concessions was ill and also trying to stay in so she could attend her sons play-off game in New Orleans today. We have never run the game clock for soccer games in the 4 years I've been going to games. Sorry to dissapoint you.

Wow! So no other parent could have run the concession stand . When you bring a bus load of kids anywhere they are gonna spend money on snacks .It would have been nice to have coffee or hot chocolate being it was so cold. And by the way i already have a watch. A real one. With the hands that move around.
