Details on Ben Franklin 3:0 Vandebilt (played at Bayou Black Rec Center):
Goals (all in 2nd half, against a 30 mph wind): Siobhan Doremus (GWG), Jenna DeBoisblanc, Izzy Durante. All midfielders.
The score pretty accurately reflected the run of play. Franklin had probably 60-65% of the possession and 70-75% of the attack. Getting the volleyball players back made a big difference.
Congrats to new Franklin coach Kalli Forster for opening her career with a win!

Lusher High has a team?? Presumably they're Div III. I know that the LHSAA reclassification version I saw recently on this site shows Lusher as a AAA school in Sacred Heart's district I believe. That version wasn't a final or for this year, and I realize it wasn't soccer specific. Interestingly, next year if they keep that same New Orleans district in AAA, which now includes Sacred Heart, McMain, Ursuline, and I don't remember who else, looks like Franklin will be in that district as well.

After all the rain we had in our area yesterday the Bayou Black complex must have been under water. I'm surprised they let them play. I'm sure Vandy's speed was neutralized which is their strength up front. Ben Franklin overcame the conditions so kudos for them.

Ben Franklin had the ball on their half the field 90% of the first half. Vandy's keeper made some great saves. I think if the weather conditions werent as bad, Ben Franklin hits one or two home in the first half.. Vandy only had one real chance of scoring in that half. The second hald was about 60/40 Ben Franklin. Ben Franklin does a very nice job of passing the ball and working it. There were time after time where the ball got stuck in puddles both ways. However, I think there is no question that Vandy was outmatched in this game, field/weather conditions are not...

Summary of the VCH and Bf game: Half 0-0 VCH one real chance BF 2 or 3 real chances. The Field was very sloppy and the conditions cold and windy. VCHS was outmatched this night especially in the second half. VCH had 2 chances and BF capitalized on all 3 of theirs. VCH lacked possession throughout the game and did not adjust to the conditions like BF did. BF was well organized passed well and took advantage of their chances. VCH on the other hand was unorganized lacked crisp passing and let BF control the middle of the field. All and all a pretty miserable game from the sideline but a good warm up to the rest of the season.

Seems to me that Vandy is not as strong as everyone believed they would be this year. It saddens me to see such a strong team do so poorly in the beginning of the season. Their defense is strong, but they are lacking in offense. They need to play as a team if they are to have any hope this season.

Was anyone actually at the Fontainebleau-Newman game and can give me details? In the first half, the game was controlled by Newman, winning every ball and staying in Fontainebleau's half. Then there was an own goal scored for Fontainebleau on a corner by Shelbi Lacombe. In the second half, Fontainebleau pulled it together and the game was played in Newman's half of the field. The second goal was scored off of a corner and volleyed into the net by Kaley Blanton. Newman put up a good fight, they are a decent team.

U High 2 Woodlawn 0
Very physical game. Both goals scored during confusion in front of Woodlawn net, unfortunate.
Both teams look very good. U high players to watch #5 and #10.
Woodlawn players look strong and play smart soccer. Plenty of chances in 2nd half.

ASH 6- Bolton 0 Ashton Engelsman scored the first goal on a rebound that she followed into the goal. Pharris followed with a breakaway on a rocket from the left side. I missed the rest.

U-High 2 Woodlawn 0 Each half looked like different game. You almost could have thought the field was slanted toward one end the way the play seemed to gravitate that way. 1st half was all U-High, swarmed the goal while WHS did seem to be able to get out of each others way (at least in the back) goals came almost back to back at the 23rd minute after a poor clearance and some pin balling around in the box U-High knocked one in. Less then two minutes later under similar circumstances (pinball soccer in the box) with the keeper twice getting a hand on the ball, the second one being off the post an attentive U-High player tapped it in to make the score 2-0 at the intermission. Second half saw a lot of action up and down the field but not a lot of shots generated. With about 15 minutes left in the game Woodlawn found a bit of energy and forced must of the play down in the U-High end. This burst produced the best save of the night as the U-High GK had to stretch to her right (laid out completely) to push a ball destine for the lower right corner around the post for a corner. WHS had another chance when the GK got caught off her line but the ball sailed harmlessly over the crossbar. One last chance for Woodlawn came on a free kick that looked like it also had a chance of going in but once again skimmed over the top and out of danger. End result from two teams who look to be struggling for an identity is U-High was luckier last night than Woodlawn. Game probably could have just as well ended 0 - 0.

Thursday Night: Barbe 3 Tuerlings 0 All 3 goals came from newly added Cross Country Runners. Barbe dominated the game (score not reflective of possession). The one bright spot from Tuerlings was the play of their keeper. She single handed prevented this game from being a 10-0 game.
