What are the good match-ups in the opening week? I think Newman is going to Fontainebleau. And St. Amant hosts Sacred Heart wednesday night and Mt. Carmel on Saturday. Also, tuesday night at the Lakeview Soccer fields on Marconi Dominican plays St.Joes and Sacred Heart plays Catholic High School of Point Coupee. Both games start at 6:00. I will post those scores as I hear them.

Actually thats going out on tv all across Europe. They're obviously trying to raise the profile of women's football so that the world cup in the summer is a big one.

Mt. Carmel 1 Terrebonne 0
Game started very slow. Both teams appeared a little timmed. Terrebonne had 2 good opportunities early but mis-fired on both. Mt. Carmel made several runs with good shots but directly to goalie. First half ended 0-0. Second half started with both team making decent runs but defenses held strong. At the 14th minute Terrebonne had break down and Mt. Carmel was quick to pounce with a quick tap inside the six to take a 1-0 lead. The intensity picked up and both teams improved play for the rest of the game. The last 10 minutes was pretty much panic mode for Terrebonne and they picked up their game tremendously. Terrebonne forward K. Champagne ripped several shots in and around the 18 with one catching pipe that was about 1" from being perfect. Terrebonne rattled the pipe 3 times in the last 10 minutes. Mt. Carmel remained cool and controlled the ball on and off during the second half. According to the Terrebonne stats Terrebonne had 11 shots on goal and Mt. Carmel 10. It was a pretty even game with Mt. Carmel looking like the better team tonight. Both teams will have to pick up their play through the season but a good win for Mt. Carmel.

Barbe 1 Sam Houston 0
Barbe controlled game between the 18's but could not put the rock in the net. According to Sam Houston stats, Barbe had 25 shots and Sam Houston had 2 (both on free kicks). Sam Houston goalie Ashley Rudd had 15 saves with a couple being excellent stops. Sam Houston has to figure a way to improve the mid field as Barbe dominated the middle. The defense of Sam Houston is good enough to compete deep in the playoffs but the offense must get on track in the next few weeks. Once again I can not comprehend how goalie Ash was not even 1st team all district last year. She has the skills to challenge for Div II All State goalie and will carry a strong Sam Houston defense. Barbe's goal came in the second half on put back by Jana Barrow. Another sub par showing with what should be an explosive offense by Barbe. But that is why you play the early games right? Next up for Barbe, Tuerlings Cath at Barbe Thursday at 6 pm.

Chapelle kept it on the attacking half most of the first half, where both of there goals were scored. Central had problems pushing the ball across mid field in the first. They had a couple quality chances to score, but did not due so. Central's defense didn't give many quality shots up. First goal was scored from about 10 yards out, a flick with the head. Ball went about 20 feet in air, but somehow barely made it under the crossbar for the first goal. The second goal, Chapelles, forward beat a Central defender one on one and they easily put it in back the net.
The second half Central was able to move the ball more into the attacking half, but Chapelle did a great job of not giving u-p any quality shots. Both defenses played fairly well.

Dutchtown 2 East Ascension 0
Score a little closer than the 1st half indicated. Dutchtown dominated possession throughout the first half but had trouble finishing (a couple of hard shots that went off the crossbar and post), basically out shooting EA approximately 10 to 1 for the half. EAs only opportunity of the first half came on a long ball sent from the back that got through Dutchtown's defense. The 2nd half was a little more evenly matched, however both teams seem to be substituting at an extremely high rate, with players playing various positions on the field. EA got a couple more scoring opportunities in the 2nd half, but still was out shot approx. 8 to 2. All the scoring occurred in the 1st half, one on a free kick by Dutchtown from about 25 yards out, and one on a very nice transition down the field by 3 of the Dutchtown girls. Overall, a pretty good first game of the season for both clubs, in which both cleared their benches several times during the game. Dutchtown definitely appears to be a strong team with their starters in the game.

Good summation overall viperball. EA missing 4 players, 3 of whom were starters and got another two back from Cross Country meet at half time. Am sure DTHS were missing some bodies themselves. First half not as good for EA, Best effort off the post midway thru the half. Second half seemed a little more cohesion. Again, was very impressed with sophomore keepers Ferchaud and Jefferson for EA.
Mass subbing was fine, good for both teams. I am impressed with DTHS, and do think they will rattle some cages in district play this year.
