Divisional Opponents --
Baton Rouge High Central St. Joseph's Academy Walker Woodlawn
In addition to any other threads where you post results, post them here as well. In addition, let's keep this thread as our official thoughts, comments, and observations about the district.
Scotlandville is listed by the LHSAA as being in District 5, but they're not showing up on the SJA schedule, so I'm guessing that means they do not have a girls soccer program. Hopefully, that will change in the years to come.
I'll start by saying how disappointed I am at losing D'Town and St. Amant to the river parishes district [6], but at least SJA will play those two quality opponents once in non-district play.
I believe Woodlawn will be a very tough out this year, as Coach Cathi's youngsters have had another year to mature and develop. Walker and Central should be improved as well. BRHS will of course continue to be an outstanding team, led by Stephanie Henderson. I have heard that Reily Kennedy is out this season on some sort of exchange program. Can anyone from BRHS confirm?
SJA started its season this past Saturday with a scrimmage against Opelousas High at their venue. SJA won 4-0 on goals by Jaime Schutte, Margaret Eggers, and Jessica Fenner [2]. The Eggers goal was the prettiest on a cross from Ashley Brunet.
Next up for SJA is the D'Town Jamboree. I believe we play Hahnville and one of the St. Amant teams.

schedule change for the jamboree -- SJA plays Dutchtown and St. Amant -- not sure why since they play regular season games. Oh well, it'll be like old times -- playing twice in one season!

Did not know that -- I looked for Cathi at the Dutchtown scrimmage but didn't see her.

Ok so tonight we have SJA seeing action at Fontainebleau and Woodlawn travelling to Sam Houston, does anyone know what BRMHS, Walker and Central are doing?

SJA 2 St. Amant 0. Terrific game. STA controlled the first 15 minutes. Their No. 3 is a terrific player -- had several chances, but seemed to wear down after a take down in the 37th minute.
0-0 @ the half.
Goals for SJA in the 54th minute on a free kick from Jessica Fenner from the severe right wing that curled in; and a shot in the 60th minute from the 12 by Maggie Eggers.
A major step up in play compared with Tuesday night against Fontainbleu.

St. Joseph's Observations through 1st month of season -- Excellent midfield play. Solid defense. Superb goal tending. Maggie Eggers a force at forward. Ashley Brunet a vacuum at defender. A 4-2 record through the 1st few weeks. Only losses to Fontainbleu [complete white wash] and Terrebone [for some players a 9th game in 5 days, including a JV tourney]. Mt. Carmel on Tuesday should be a real litmus test -- can this team hang with some of the best the state has to offer? Tough schedule ahead. If this team hits district play 3 games above .500, they should be top 10 material. If 4 games above .500, top 6. Top 10 voters take note. I'm out.

Tonight's SJA-Mt. Carmel game will be re-scheduled due to dangerous field conditions in New Orleans.

SJA's varsity record is only 1-1. SJA's jv team played in the Central Lafourche tournament so those games will not count on the varsity record.

Did not know that -- thought that if you played a sanctioned varsity tournament against other varsity teams, that it didn't matter whether you played your varsity or jv players. Thanks for the clarification.

Remember for JV there is one rule = there are no rules! Our JV enters a varsity tourn every year, but not correlated with overall record, same with JV games against varsity opponents.

Comment on SJA, I know they are missing one of the best defenders in the state in Megan Aultman. Should make them even better.

Megan is playing with a Florida U-17 team in addition to her club ball in Baton Rouge. I hear she is returning after this weekend.

Ashley Brunet has been getting it done for SJA's defense.
