SJA at the Gulfport Showcase -- 5-0 v. Picayune 1-3 v. Biloxi 1-1 v. East central
Oustanding 1st game with crisp passing against an overwhelmed opponent. Lethargic in 2nd game. Touches way off. Oustanding 3rd game against a rough opponent. At least 10 fouls called with two cards. Leah Aultman with the equalizer from the 18 with 3 minutes left. 1-1-1 -- not bad, but should have been better.
SJA record either 2-2-1 or 5-3-1, depending on if the Battle on the Bayou Tournament counts for the varsity record.

SJA loses to Dutchtown 3-1. Not sure what's up. Boom balls and a lack of the crisp passing shown in the early season.

D'Town 3 SJA 0 -- failure to mark D'Town's 26 led to goal. Wicked hop 2nd goal. Scrum 3rd goal. SJA had much better passing and organized attacking compared to last week ag/ D'Town. I think they outshot D'Town. If can transition better from D to counter-attacking, they have a lot of upside.
SJA 1 Deridder 0. PK by Fenner in the 38th minute. Excellent passing -- just can't seem to finish

SJA 6 St. Amant 0. Goals by Grace Gremillion [cross assist from Margaret Eggers (27th min); Eggers on a header off a corner from Ashley Brunet (38th min); Jessica Fenner on a shot from the left wing (43rd min); Fenner on a cross from Eggers (52nd min); Brunet on a free kick from about 25 (55th min); and Kat Kleinpeter off a corner from Fenner (57th min).
Best soccer of the season from this bunch. Let's see if they can build on it. Dominican Tuesday night.

SJA 4 Woodlawn 0
Hat Trick by Margaret Eggers in the 12th, 21st, and 73rd minutes, and a free kick from Ashley Brunet in the 64th minute.
I know others from SJA read this. Feel free to chime in. I can't be the scribe for all matches. There are a few I will miss.
And I would hope we get some insight from others in D-5. Baton Rouge High -- where RU?
Regards -- Fenner's Dad

12/21 SJA 5 Walker 1 SJA goals by Kaitlin Hatcher, Jessica Fenner, Paige Menier, Leah Aultman, and Megan Aultman. Hats off to Walker for 1st goal ever against SJA -- a gorgeous header off a free kick -- very nice.
12/22 SJA 11 Redemptorist 0. SJA goals by Leah Aultman (2), Jaime Schutte (2), Margaret Eggers (2), Jessica Fenner, Paige Menier, Grace Gremillion, Laura Kelley, and Erica Allen. SJA coach did what he could to keep the scoring down.
SJA's boom balls seem to be lesser in quantity and better quality in terms of long ball passing. Mid-fielders are getting the balls on the wings more consistently, setting up better attacks for the forwards. Fields are being switched. All points on the pitch are thus being attacked -- which is creating space for the scorers.
This team is progressing.
Up next for SJA is Covington next Thursday and BR High next Saturday.
A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF YOU AND A HAPPY HOLIDAY AS WELL!![/i]

Woodlawn 8 Central 0
Goals by Sarah Collier (3), Gloria Collier, Emily Walton, Emmy Senft, Adrienne "Hoggy" Frith, and Oyinkansola "Honey" Onawole (PK).
Woodlawn is 1-1 in district. I think SJA is 2-0, Walker is 0-1, Central is 0-1, and does anyone know how BRMHS is doing in district?

SJA 1 Covington 0. Goal in the 12th minute on a 25 yard floater from Grace Gremillion off of a very nice drop assist by Margaret Eggers. SJA controlled possession probably 85-15, and outshot the opposition probably 20-2. Just couldn't finish. But some really nice ball movement especially to wing MFs Leah Aultman and Jessica Fenner. Fields were switched. Shots were provided.
Covington has a nice team. They are very sound defensively, and know how to fill and mark within the box. Up top, their No. 2 reminds me of St. Amant's No. 3. Both are very fast and skilled with the ball. Unfortunately, it is tough for their teammates to get them balls in space. I suspect the fact that Covington is in the same district as Fontainebleau, Mandeville, and St. Scholastica contributes to their defensive minded philosophy.

SJA 1 BR High 0 Goal in the 35th minute by Margaret Eggers on a header into the back of the net off a left footed cross from deep in the corner by Jessica Fenner. Might be SJA's goal of the year thus far.
Very tough, physical play, although called equally. I would guess 18 or 20 fouls called, with No. 2 (sweeper) of BRHS getting a yellow.
Both teams had chances, although the physicality of the match seemed to wear on both in the 2nd half.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think the district standings look like this:
SJA 2-0 (wins against BRHS and Woodlawn) BRHS 1-1 (win against Central, loss to SJA) Woodlawn 1-1 (win against Central, loss to SJA) Walker 0-0 (don't know if they have played yet) Central 0-2 (loss to BRHS and Woodlawn)

St. Thomas Moore 5 SJA 0 Red Dawgs did actually generate some offensive opportunities. But the difference between SJA and the STM's and Fontainbleu's of the world are in one touch and long ball passes. The great teams make the latter passes consistently and with ease. They anticipate where their teammates are going to be located a split second sooner and more accurately than their opponents. That is borne of trust and faith. I've seen glimpses of this from SJA, but until they start trusting one another more in terms of spacing and become more consistent in long ball opportunities, they'll continue to be a 2nd level team. Are they a better team tonight than they were yesterday? We'll see. If they could just turn a little of that lead in their feet to soft rubber, that might do the trick. I continue to believe in them, and continue to believe that as long as they improve, they will always have their chances. It was a nice week to be in the top 10. Does SJA deserve to remain there? Well, it was the state's top team that thrashed them tonight. If I had a vote, I would put them at about 12 or 13, but a decent showing in coming weeks against Barbe and Acadiana, plus another victory over BRHS would make them a strong top 10 team. Dominican proved last year that teams can gel late and make a strong run through the playoffs. Magic is often fleeting, but can take root. All you have to do is believe.

SJA Dad, Hang in there (which I know you will), SJA has a good group of talented girls, if they work hard and follow direction, they'll be fine. Developing trust within these programs is a difficult thing - those who listen and do it succeed - those who don't live on athleticism and talent only. Coach John at STM has it.

Barbe 2 SJA 1. Highly competitive game. A bit of a questionable non call in the box in the last minute, but that stuff happens. SJA stepped up tonight against an outstanding team. Very proud of the Red Dawgs!!
