Lafayette 4 Terrebonne 0
Game started with one of the Lafayette midfielders not starting for being late at time of departure. The Lady Lions attacked early missing point blank shot for about 5-10 minutes. The Lady Tigers then countered with a long ball in which the speedy #4 had a breakaway with the Lions keeper (Soph.- Ann-Marie Morella) where the keeper came out and stuffed the shot by #4. It was at this point the diciplined starter entered the game, and the scoring began. The rest of the half was played on the Terrebonne defensive half and Lafayette scored 3 goals. Halftime 3-0 - Lafayette
Lafayette came out and continued pressuring the Tiger defense, but they wouldn't break. It wasn't until about 10 minutes into the second half when a driven corner kick from Erin Burney (Laf) was sent out to the awaiting feet of Freshman Annie Brennan, where she just sent the ball back in to the goal mouth and was fortunate that the ball came down just under the crossbar for the 4th goal by the fourth different player of the night.
This is where the game began to get UGLY. As most games go, there were fans yelling to the refs about what they thought about their refereeing abilities, but there was one guy who went to far. This guy was a Terrebonne fan and he shouted to the AR on the stadium side that he had better talk to the Center Ref and get control of the game, because it was a "long walk to the parking lot". The AR turned to the stands and the man stood up and said, "I said that and you need to talk to your Center Ref".
My opinion of the game was that it did get out of hand, because the Terrebonne players were frustrated when the ref was calling all the shirt pulling and arm grabbing. I thought the ref was calling everything to keep control of the game. For instance when a ball was sent toward the midfield, a Terrebonne player was waiting for the ball to come down and the Lafayette player was running to come in and chest the ball, the Terrebonne player tried to volley the ball forward (chest high) and kicked the Lafayette player in the neck and head area. They both fell to the ground and the Lafayette player got up and jumped on the Terrebonne player throwing a punch. The ref got control of the situation and issued the Laf player a red card and the Terrebonne player a yellow card for a dangerous play. Correct call both ways. The one call I think he did miss was when the back up keeper for Lafayette was kicked in the mid section by #4 (when the keeper clearly had it in her grasp) and continued to get to the ball and take a shot - which was wide right. The 3 rd keeper for Lafayette was then put into the game for the injured keeper. NO CARD or warning was given.
The last 20 minutes of the game Lafayette played a player short due to the red card issued. It was at this point that Lafayette played keepaway and controlled the ball the remainder of the game with only 4 starters and the 5 bench players. The only shot on goal for Terrebonne was the shot taken after the taking out of the keeper I mentioned above.
The Lady Tigers played hard but were just outmatched tonight. Congratulations on a good season.
To the fans of Terebonne that were trash talking after the game. I have a friend that is a graduate of Terrebonne, that I wanted to bring to the game but couldn't make it. He told me exactly what was going to happen. He said if Lafayette was to win that the fans would get rowdy and verbal. He was right. The comments that were floating around in a negative tone were as follows:
"Ya'll won't make it to state" - My response "ya'll won't either" "Just one more week thats all" - My response -We're still playing And to the Lady in the Pinkish shirt - the Red Card issue, according to LHSAA rules she DOES NOT have to sit out the next game. Enjoy the rest of your week!

sokerfan, no big surprise there (regarding Terrebonne's fans). Should have heard #4's mom when she got issued a yellow card in a game earlier in the season against Central Lafourche.

Barbe is gonna be the first real test that Lafayette high has had all season! Opinion based on a lack of information? The Lions have already played Barbe once this year. Lafayette also played Mt. Carmel, Byrd, St. Louis and Acadiana. They are playing great soccer right now and coming together. Watch out!

(Please don't take this the wrong way and I am in no way trying to put down the keeper, but there is no doubt in my mind that Kat would have made that stop). The one thing that almost no one knew was a huge reason for the keeper missing the ball. The "best field in LA" has terrible lighting. The flash of the camera, very bright in comparison to the overhead lights, temporarily blinded the goalie and she made a blind dive and hoped for the best. All flash photography was stopped after that. I am in no way blaming that goal on the photographer (the ball shouldn't have made it past the rest of team either), but it sure didn't help. If you don't understand what I'm saying, go outside on a sunny day and throw a baseball straight into the sun. For a moment you won't be able to see the ball, or anything, anymore. That split second in soccer games can make a huge difference. This goes for all poorly-lit fields: get better lights or cut the photography. Regardless of that one goal, Barbe was the better team yesterday. By the second half, Caddo got frantic and didn't play their game. Barbe is a very disciplined team and it showed. And no one, on either side, knew what that ref was doing! lol It was a well played game. It was a sad way to end a season, two years running, but Barbe wanted it more. Congrats to the Bucs and good luck in the rest of the playoffs.

On another thread Mung wrote: Congrats to Deridders girls. Perhaps a game summary in the other thread? This will be the farthest run into the playoffs by any team from this district in recent memory.
So I will try, I just ask all to remember 1) I am a bit biased and 2) when I coach sometimes my focus is on instructing a player for something that happened earlier so I might not have seen what lead to a certain event in the game our third goal being an example I saw Rachel shoot just not what lead to the shot.
Both teams came out with a lot of intensity I felt like possession was almost even with an edge to DeRidder for first 20 to 30 mins. In about the 10th min Ashley Phantz took advantage of a mistake by the Neville defense. About 15 to 20 mins later Nevilles number 5 took a beautiful free kick from about 30 yards out to tie it up and then just before half Jeannette Coronel shot from about 25 yards out that the keeper got her hands on but could not keep it out. 2-1 at half
Our third goal came right after the start of the half by Rachel Coronel again I was not sure what lead to the shot. About 25 mins into the 2nd half number 5 capitalized on a mistake by our defense( she is a very quick and very good player). Neville continued to pressure hard and had most of the possession in the second half but our defense was able to hold the lead. I felt it was a good game played by two good teams and we had to work very hard to earn the win. I found the Neville players and coaching staff to be a class act and hope we can possibly schedule something in the future

Thanks MsWilb. #5 for Neville is Jasmine Sanders, the coach's daughter, i think. Excellent player. Good luck against Vandy.

Congratulations to DeRidder Dragons. Good luck in the Semi's. Mswilb gave an accurate synopsis of the game. DeRidder played smart, heads-up soccer and Neville fell short. Neville had two seniors out with injuries (one all district forward and one all-state defender), but no excuses! Good job Dragons!

Enjoy the rest of your week! Where-o-where to begin sokerfan. I have to agree with about 90% of what you've posted. Without a doubt Lafayette was the better team and by their play they deserved to win. As they say on the drink commercial on TV "They are who we thought they were". You have a very good solid soccer team and deserved the win. As for the control of the game and some of the calls there was a lot to be desired but I will also say until you are willing to get the training and blow the whistle there is not a lot you can say. I do believe if the ref had done a little better job on the elbows and shirt pulling by both teams there would have never been a need for a red card. This is not first complaint I've heard about our fans this year and for that I will apologize. We will work on that and hopefully do better in the future. I will say it was going both ways after the game but that doesn't make it right. I am curious about the statement about the player that received the red card not having to sit out a game. I coached in high school for several years and my understanding is that if a player revieves a "hard red" they have to sit out the next game regardless. Has that rule changed? Anyone that can provide info please chime in. Regardless of everything above congratulations on a solid win and good luck Monday against Barbe.

There hasn't been an LHSAA rule about a red card (hard, soft, or otherwise) sitting out the next match since I've been involved with high school soccer starting back in 1992. Any such discipline is up to the school. Tournaments, of course, may create their own rules, but it hasn't been an LHSAA rule and still isn't.

This is not first complaint I've heard about our fans this year and for that I will apologize. We will work on that and hopefully do better in the future... I am curious about the statement about the player that received the red card not having to sit out a game. I coached in high school for several years and my understanding is that if a player revieves a "hard red" they have to sit out the next game regardless. Has that rule changed? Anyone that can provide info please chime in. Part of that problem with your fans is that you don't police your own. One goes overboard and the others follow suit (on both the boys and girls sides). I went to two games at Terrebonne this year. One was relatively quiet and the other was outrageous (on the boys end). There are some referees in your area who refuse to work Terrebonne's games because they don't want to deal with the spectators....that's how bad that problem has gotten. I didn't think it was that bad when I worked the game, I didn't hear much of anything at all from the stands. The game I attended as a spectator, your parents crossed the line (this was a boys game). Could have been prevented if 1) other parents with cooler heads, like you, would speak up and 2) Coach Clement or another faculty rep would have been in the stands and paying attention. I'm not trying to bash you guys, but those of you who are better known in that circle need to stand up and take better control of that crowd. By the way, thanks for saying hi while I was there. It was good to see you again. Timbertwin got the red card issue pegged. Our team's policy was any red card (soft was just introduced) the player sat for the next game. Sometimes the "next game" was too important and the player sat maybe 3 games down the road, but they sat one eventually. I think you're getting confused with NFHS Rules, LHSAA by-laws, and FIFA Circular 821. (Modified to add last sentence and correct FIFA Circular number)
