These are the district standings updated as of 9:30 a.m. 01.28.12. 1 game remains -- D'town and STA. Unless I am mistaken, this seals the district standings -- EA D'town SJA STA BRHS If Dutchtown beats St. Amant Monday night, they and EA tie for the district title, but I believe EA gets the 1st seed based on overall goal differential within the district. Coaches -- please PM me if I am mistaken about that. Congrats to EA for clinching at least a share of the title last night. TEAM | DISTRICT RECORD | GOALS FOR | GOALS AGAINST | GOAL DIFFERENTIAL* | East Ascension | 10-2 | 50 | 4 | +25 | Dutchtown | 9-2 | 38 | 6 | +19 | St. Joseph's | 8-4 | 38 | 14 | +9 | St. Amant | 6-5 | 20 | 14 | +8 | Baton Rouge | 6-6 | 22 | 18 | -1 | Woodlawn, BR | 2-10 | 10 | 37 | -18 | McKinley | 0-12 | 3 | 92 | -36 |
* Before anyone accuses SJA Dad of needing to return to high school to take remedial math due to an inability to subtract, the goal differential is provided by the District Rep and is based on a max of + 3 per game.

Should be a good start tonight across the district. SJA and EA will definitely be a contested match. EA is a good physical team and SJA is always technically sound. BR High starts with McKinley tonight over at Lee. The Bulldogs should be able to find the back of the net tonight. I think the final match of the night is Woodlawn and St.Amant. We'll see tonight if Woodlawn is the dark horse I think they are. Just leaves Dutchtown to round out the mix. I think 5 or 6 of these teams can contend for the 3 (or 4) playoff spots in this district. That leaves at least a couple good teams out in the cold come playoff time. We'll see who's shivering on the field and whose home toasty warm. I'm hoping the Bulldogs have my teeth chattering through at least a few rounds of playoff action.

EA brought the wood tonight. SJA did not match EA's intensity. A good lesson learned on the pitch. Actually several lessons learned. Many, many lessons learned.
Congrats East Ascension. You deserved a hard fought victory. We'll see you in a few weeks.

Yeah EA has a good squad. I have them as the favoriet to win it all this season. They play a very physical game and many teams shut down with that type of play. I think getting past the bumps and pushes is the trick. If you can get ready and give as good as you get you have a chance against them. If you let them intimidate. then you've already lost the match. Hopefully your Redstickers can bounce back in the rematch later this season.
BR High/McKinley went as expected, though McKinley did manage to sneak one past the goalie late in the match with defenders playing offense and attackers playing defense. Second half BR worked on possession, working some very nice triangles. We'll see how they stack up against SJA, EA, St.Amant, and Dutchtown. Woodlawn I think they have the talent to beat, but Woodlawn does like to play a physical game as well, so anything could happen there.

Also,
Dominican 4 - Baton Rouge 0
Dominican controlled possession, field position, etc.
Starting to rethink the District of Doom moniker. Perhaps battling in this district will elevate the play in future years, but it looks like we may still be a step behind the elite programs in the state.

District may be a step behind the elites, but certainly has above average level of talent, coaching, and intensity. A few teams seem to be off to a little rough start, but come end of January, expect that there will be intense battle for top 2 teams wanting to make playoffs. Long season ahead here....

SJA just played its best game of the season in tying a very talented Lafayette squad 2-2. Laf controlled possession probably 60-40, but SJA defended very well and hung tough ag/ one of the state's top teams. That type of effort will produce dividends.

BRHS Played Laffy to a 1-0 loss at the Carencro Showcase. Competition in New Orleans this weekend was much tougher than what we faced in Carencro. Mt.Carmel & Dominican were definitely a class above. Vandebilt I thought we played well with. Score doesn't reflect it, but the action was back and forth. Overall a tough weekend for the Lady Bulldogs.

East Ascension 1, Dutchtown 0. Both teams very impressive. Muddy conditions and worsened as night progressed.

SJA 9 McK 0
Any way to get a grid of district records, goal differential, etc... attached to top of this post that can be updated weekly. SJA dad, Pompey any ideas how to do this?

If there's someone that wants to enter the game results into an Excel spreadsheet, I would be happy to help setup a tool. I had helped to re-tool the one on the boys side & could modify it very easily to do what you're wanting to do. All that needs to be entered is date, home team, score, away team, score. The rest is built into the spreadsheet. The boys side does it all across all divisions & districts. You can view it here: docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtKSBuaxDvAAdG8xdGlvOGtxbWMzTUNwdnhXNDRtM3c#gid=0It could easily be tailored to your needs (simplified in what's presented). I'd be happy to help with designing.

Very intense, hard fought game last night at EA. All defense for the first 87 minutes- only goal made with less than 3 minutes to play. Saw lots of great effort on both sides of the ball, but field conditions definitely served as 12th man on the field to complicate matters for both teams. Nice job Spartans- great win! EA improves to 9-0.
