Dutchtown beat Baton Rouge 3-0 today and will play them on Tuesday again. Dutchtown rolled in this match. BRHS controlled possession early (first 10 -15 minutes) after that it was largely all Dutchtown. 0-0 at the half. Dutchtown stormed out in the second half and outplayed BRHS. Nearly every ball in the air was won by Dutchtown and the DTown defense proved more that BRHS offense could handle. Very few shots taken by the Bulldogs in this one. If Dutchtown can maintain the form they played with in this match and against Dominican, they should finish in second place. For the Lady Bulldogs, they need to get something going soon or they can hang up the playoff hopes. Playing at Dutchtown on Tuesday is gonna make climbing back into the district race tough. As mentioned before, dynamics of teams playing each other in such a short turnaround are very interesting. Tuesday Slate: BRHS @ DTHS STA @ St Joes McK @ EA Woodlawn- Bye.

May take the role of spoiler into the playoff runs teams are trying to mount. They took St.Amant to PKs and continue to play good soccer. 1-0 victory over Catholic High Point Coupee. We'll see if they can parlay that into a competitive match with BRHS on Friday night. The Bulldogs will need this match to keep playoff hopes alive. Not a whole lot of room for error the remainder of their season.

Huge props to D'Town. With only top 2 guaranteed trips to playoffs [but with 14 wildcards scattered throughout the division], shaping up to be a real battle for the 2nd seed from this district.
SJA tonight 10-0 to an outmanned McKinley squad that hung in there.
SJA scoring -- Jessica Dismukes (2), Maggie Wilkins (2), Gabby Gutierrez (2), Claire Keaton, Emily Krzystowczyk, Katie Royer, and Megan Fleches.

BRHS 2 - Woodlawn 0
BRHS controlled the field, but had trouble shooting in the final 3rd. Better combination passing last night lead to many opportunities, but pulling the trigger on the shot wasn't always there. First touch killed them in the box. Woodlawn seems to be having more fun, playing looser, and improving in form. BRHS defense was tout despite missing Nony on the back line. M.Guillory and B.St.Amand did a great job holding down the middle of the field despite a very aggressive attack by the Woodlawn strikers. M.Marshall shut down C.Williams on the outside as well. Very few runs into the BRHS final third.
Goals for BRHS by L.Oldenwald and S.Rhodes

Standings updated as of 01.16.12 in first post. Key remaining games --
Jan. 17th -- BRHS @ St. Amant//SJA @ Woodlawn Jan. 20th -- EA @ BRHS//Woodlawn @ D'town Jan. 24th -- SJA @ BRHS//D'town @ St. Amant//Woodlawn @ EA Jan. 27th -- St. Amant @ EA//D'town @ SJA
It is conceivable that the final game pitting D'town @ SJA could decide 2nd place in the district.

BRH 1 St Amant 3
Great game.
StAmant went up 1-0 in first half, then made it 2-0 with 6 min left in the game. The resilient BRH Bulldogs scored almost immediately after the restart putting lots of pressure on the gators. 2-1, with 5 min left in game. St Amant pushed after a rally from BRH and finished the game with a goal. Final 3-1
I think no matter what happeneds at the end of the season, we have a great district with lots of competitive young women. I hope the best for all of the teams as we prepare for the last few games.

Great game at The Pit last night. St.Amant's strikers put massive pressure on the BRHS defensive line and the defense for the Lady Gators bent but didn't break for most of the match. BRHS pressured throughout, but sure hands in goal and solid defense from the backs kept anything from going in. St.Amant worked the counter attack to perfectionwith an impressive display by #7. Speed, size, and determination led to her dominating the attack. Meanwhile St.Amant's defense played the ball from in front, ensuring shots were deflected or attacks were quickly turned into counters.
BRHS continues to struggle at finishing, despite winning the midfield battle and mounting several good attacks. Opportunities were there to tie up the game, including an open net with the goalie on the ground. Good crosses and corners went unfulfilled. Forced passes into the defense turned a lot of opportunities into St.amant counter attacks. #13 played well up top in the early minutes, but St.Amant D and goalie kept her out. Segura and Oldenwald also had great looks, but goalie made easy work of their shots. Hopefully they can put together enough of a finish to garner a wioldcard.
I agree this district is definitely showing good form and class late in the season. Dutchtown appears in great form going into the stretch. EA has looked good all season. SJA and St.Amant look like they'll battle for spots in the playoffs. After that it looks to be a tough road for BRHS for an outside chance at a wildcard. Woodlawn, seems to be improving in form and having fun, but appears to be playing for pride at this point. And McKinley has battled all year, despite lopsided contests. They've shown a lot of class. I especially enjoyed them signing their alma mater after their home game against BRHS. Clearly shows us what it is all about...pride in your school and representing it with class!
