BRH wins in pks! Goalies made it very interesting! Great District, Great Games! This was a fantastic game to watch. Both teams gave it their all. Referees allowed both teams to play a physical game. Most of the complaining came from the stands. The ladies seemed to be enjoying the competition. 0-0 through regulation and OT periods. And the PK shootout was nervewracking! Both keepers (backups due to injuries to starting keepers) made things interesting. Both had saves and both were frozen on a couple shots. In the end, Avery (#13), was the hero of the game making one save to take it to goal v. goal with a beautiful save on EA's 5th shooter to keep things 3-3. #6 shooters for both teams put their shots away. Saves on both 7th shooters. And finally on the 8th shooter BRHS put it away and made the save on the ensuing PK. Real nail biter! Well worth the price of admission! EA JV came back to avenge the varsity loss with a 4-1 victory.

Man love to see the teams from this district going at it for places. Of course as most of you know a little partial to the Griffs. Look forward to seeing some good action to close the regular season.

Definitely some interesting scenarios in this district. District Championship is still up in the air. Runnerup is also up for grabs. After that there are 3 teams looking to grab a wildcard spot in the playoffs. It's possible that 5 teams could end district at .500 or better! .500 gives a very good chance at post season play. Sending 5 teams to the playoffs would be impressive. Thank you to all of the young ladies and their coaches for providing us with an incredible season! All seven teams have much to be proud of and to build on for next year.

SJA 2 over BRHS 1 in the muddy slop @ the old Lee High field.
0-0 @ half as both teams were trying to find their footing. Very few opps.
SJA got things started in the 44th min when Brady Moran followed a shot from Emily Heitman that the BRHS' goalie appeared to fumble in the slop.
BRHS got on the board in the 53rd min on very nice corner that the SJA goalie fumbled into the goal.
Maddie Pardi with the winner in the 60th off a nice corner from Rachel Fenner that led to a scrum in the box. Pardi converted from the 12.
Well played considering the conditions. This clinches at least 3rd in the Dist for SJA. BRHS deserves a wild card.

At any rate I think BRHS will make the playoffs with a 6-6 record, if they take care of business at Woodlawn on Thursday night. I didn't miss the rain and cold today, but I didmiss watching he game.

Slight correction to SJAdad's post. Emily Krzystowczyk scored the first goal for St. Joe's, not Brady Moran. Brady did have a shot in the the first half, before SJAdad arrived that stopped just short of the goal - keeper came out and Brady got past her, but her shot hit the ground and stopped dead just short of the goal line in the muck. After that, no real threats in the first half, but several shots on goal for SJA and a couple for BRHS.
Shots (total/on goal): SJA: 16/6 BRHS: 4/3
Goals: SJA: Emily Krzystowczyk, 44th minute, assist Emily Heitman (Emily's hard low shot rebounded off the keeper to EK. Madeline Pardi in the 60th minute after Rachel's corner, a scrum, a shot, and Pardi put in the rebound. BRHS: Kayla Ashford on a good firm corner swinging to the keeper who could not find the handle in the wet conditions - 54th minute.
Saves: SJA: Meghan Flechas 2 BRHS: Avery Jenkins 4
Corners: SJA 4; BRHS 2

According to my daughter this was more of a water polo match or swim meet. She said there was standing water everywhere on the field. Can't wait til we're back at Government Street campus! Congrats for the strong finish in the medley relay, SJA!

EA 8, Woodlawn 0 Young panthers fought hard and will make the district even more competitive (if that's possible!) over these next few years.

Thanks to Nutmeg and SJAdad and all the others that helped keep up with the district standings this season. Nice to see where everyone stands and have good discussion about the games in this district as they happen. Just goes to illustrate how special the district is, as I haven't seen that for any of the others, or perhaps I'm just not looking. Maybe we're just a bunch of fanatics, or maybe we just like keeping up with how our kids are doing. Either way, nice to see the chatter. Hope some team from this district makes it far in the playoffs.
Hats off to the Lady Bulldogs. They came out ready to play on Saturday. Couldn't have asked for more of a performance and a nail biter on the field for just $5

Since this district is closely contested I thought I would share with everybody our tie breaker rules. I have seen some misunderstanding on some of your post.
Division I District 5
3. A district champion shall be decided by overall district competition. Standings shall be determined by a point system based on 1 point for a win and 0 points for a loss. Tie-breakers, at the end of district play shall be resolved by: • Head-to-head competition • Head-to-head goal difference (goals for minus goals against – maximum of three goals difference per game) i. A victory by PK shootout will result in a +1 goal differential for the winning team. Ex. Two teams are tied 2-2 at the end of overtime, after a PK shootout the winner wins by a 3-2 score. • Overall DISTRICT play goal difference – maximum of three goals difference per game. • Fewest DISTRICT goals allowed • If still tied:
Tie-breaker game for any 1st – 2nd place tie and 2nd – 3rd place tie. a. a coin toss will be used to determine site of game b. distribution of gate proceeds will be agreed upon by coaches before game
3-way ties: a. a drawing of straws will be used to determine who will receive a bye in the first game b. two tie-breaker games will be played c. the team receiving the bye will play the winner of the first tie-breaker game

On behalf of everyone at Dutchtown Lady Griffin Soccer, I would like to express our deepest condolences to East Ascension Head Coach Goodall (pompey) on the passing of his father. I am sure I can speak for the entire district and beyond by saying we will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.
