What's up with soccer on the Northshore? Is any one out there? I know there have been a few changes in District 5 Coaches and probably players too.
stories to watch:
1. St. Paul's or Fontainebleau have the talent to take the title. Who did St. Paul's get from the south shore? Can FHS play greater than the sum of its still youthful parts? The stronger answer will determine the winner. 2. Covington, Mandeville, and Northshore coaching changes? What is up with Penton and how will Northshore respond if they do have a new coach? 3. Football rules at Slidell. Will they even bother to play more than 16 games? Could this effect the young Tigers? 4. Ponchatoula and Hammond players improving but are they up to St. Tammany's Standards?
let's fill in the blanks, the season starts Oct. 31!!

1. St Pauls - have an established record of success and big showings in previous years, and with great returning talent. who could go against them in this district?
2. Fontainebleau - TEAM TO BEAT. 2nd but barely. had some good results last season as well, i believe, a 3-3 tie with SPS but lost in PKs, but then were annihilated 6 or 7-0 the next game. if they can gain some consistency, their potential is big. this WILL be their breakout year and they will establish themselves as another good northshore team.
3. Mandy - this is really a toss up for 2nd between them and fblue. they lost some great talent last year in the likes of cochran and others, but whoever can win the away games will take 2nd, but again, they have an established record and they are fairly well known and have some good talent. BUT with their current coaching situation, who knows how they will respond.
4. Northshore/Covington - again another toss up. Both with .500 district records last year (i think im not sure) and also have some good talent, but again if there is a coaching change, who knows how they will respond.
6. Slidell - has potential but their talent doesnt match up to the SPS, MHS, and FHS's of the district.
7. Ponchatoula/Hammond - This is usually the battle for last in this district, and is very close. there might be a few suprise victories this year so we will just have to wait and see.

Number one will be St Pauls. Best talent and coaching. Frankie will be district MVP.
Number 2 is a toss up with Northshore, Fontaineblue and Mandeville. You can forget about Covington since no coach and no Judice, Slidell doesn't have barely enough players to have a varsity, and Ponchy and Hammond will be, well, Ponchy and Hammond.

Let's get the party started. District play begins on Tuesday.
St Paul hosts Northshore. Wolves are the class of the district and could beat Lafayette if Lafayette wouldn't hide out in the western part of the state. Northsore will give them a game as always.
Fountainebleau v. Mandeville. Bulldogs are the team of the future. Mandeville bends but does not break.
Covington v. Hammond. This should be a competitive match. Who would have thought.
Slidell and Ponchatoula. Slidell always comes at ya, but Ponchatoula has MyNewHero, Ryan, and another small kid in the middle who's fav quote to his opponent "can't we be friends?" Hilarious.
All in all, 4 good matchups in the toughest district. Six competitive teams this year.

Fontainebleau is ready to make a run. Beat Slidell twice this weekend to win the Pearl River Tournament.

St Paul hosts Northshore. Wolves are the class of the district and could beat Lafayette if Lafayette wouldn't hide out in the western part of the state. Northsore will give them a game as always. . Lakeview, I have three humble opinions about that statement: A) true--St Paul's is the class of the Northshore and will win that district, though I would expect that they will drop a game or two along the way--too many good teams there in District 5 to go undefeated B) False--Lafayette is not "hiding out" in the Western part of the state to duck ANYBODY, and after having the chance to coach against St Paul's AND Lafayette this season, I will offer the opinion that they are not as close as you think they are. St Paul's has given up 4 goals to St Amant, Dutchtown, and Brother Martin, and 2 to Vandy--Laffy comes in with much more attack than those teams, and St Paul's will need to tighten up in the back before they can have a legitimate shot at beating the Lions. That being said, I do believe that St Paul's would be the best suited team statewide right now to give Laffy a push, but I would go with LHS by a 4-1 score, easy. I dont know that calling Lafayette out right now would be the best thing to do anyway--those guys are good enough without needing extra motivation; and C) False--No, Northshore wont-St. Paul's 4-0

Coach, I feel that Lafayette goes to these tournaments, plays a couple of JV teams, and gets to rest its starters for the finals. St Pauls goes to a real tournament with no weak sisters, no rest for the weary, and beats Vandebilt, at their House, which could be in the Top 3 teams in the state. They have beaten Catholic, Brother Martin, and Vandebilt. Tied Dutchtown and had a shootout scrimmage with your team, and a 3-0 scrimmage over Rummel. And we are only on week 2. Giving up 4 goals is not a problem if you can score 6, as they did against BM, who I am ranking 5th. In a sane world, how could I rank a team number 5 after giving up 6 goals? When you see St Pauls gets one vote as the number one team, guess who. And on Tuesday, Northshore will show it has a solid team with an excellent coach. NHS might surprise. You read it here first.

Lakeview I do think you make a good point about the teams that Laffy has played, and I agree that they could be playing a little higher level tournament comp--they will play no Showcase, No St Paul's, no Sacred Heart.
I also want to make sure we understand that I believe St Paul's to be the next best team to Laffy at this point. I just think that, imho, Laffys ability to score goals in bunches, combined with St Paul's tendency to give up goals (so far this season) would lend me to believe Laffy would beat them. Hey its early, and later season results will either change my opinion or not.
As for Northshore--hey I will wait and see. I still like St Paul's to win by at least 2 goals.

Covington scores at the Pearl River Tournament: 5-1 over E.Jeff, 2-1 over PJP, and 2-0 over PJP in the D-1 championship. Slidell beat St Martins 2-1 in the other division.

Additional score from Pearl River Tournament: Fontainebleau- 3 Slidell- 1
Division II champions: FHS would like to have seen FHS vs. CHS since FHS already defeated SHS the previous night in bracket play.

Round 1 of the League:
Covington 4 - Hammond 3 in extra time. Paul Barrial for Covington and Isreal Riply for Hammond trade scores. Hammond will win a district match (one, two, three etc.) this year but I can't pick against my old squad.....especially on day 1. Coach Scherer has made HHS competitive.
Ponchatoula 3 - Slidell 2 also in extra time. Ryan Black shows up big for PHS and Brian Ford hangs two after some fancy footwork. Two evenly matched teams but Chicken's boys get the nod over Vanado's guys due to home field advantage.
Fontainebleau 2 - Mandeville 1. Coach Budd gets his guys off to a great start with a win over Conn and the Skippers. These are my two picks to challenge St. Paul's in district. Look for this one to go to the wire.
St. Paul 6 - Northshore 1. Normally this is a tight match but St. Paul should be strong with Mingo and Eustice. Northshore is a bit of a question mark with a new coach and key players leaving. The talent gap between these to is too much to overcome for a young NHS squad. Give Laz time (at least I think thats who is coaching) and he will build a winner.
My take on this district is that there are three very good teams in the district and five others that are pretty solid. There isn't much seperating 4th place from 8th. A more balanced district should equal a fun district. Good luck to all.

Hammond must have improved since the 7-2 thrashing by BRH. Good luck on the rest of the season.

BIG NEWS FROM FHS... Fontainebleau - 2 Mandeville - 0
Overall domination by Fontainebleau. I think Mandeville shot the ball "in the direction of goal" about 3 times, which all shanked very wide and high. FHS had some breakaways but bad touches put the ball too close to keeper. Also a very bad tackle from behind from MHS. Guy was on a breakaway on the sideline for FHS, and MHS idk what number comes and slashes his feet from under him literally, and only gets yellow. Other than that fairly clean. Great game to watch, very intense. Also, I was in the crowd, and the students were screaming their lungs out, great support by them.

Hammond 2-2(4-2) in penalty kicks w/ my Lions. Congrats to Coach Scherer and the Tors. The score is indicative of the match...50/50.
Ponchatoula 3 - Slidell 1. No more info yet but it is a final.
To put me in coach, I am Coach Inman. Any scores would be appreciated.
