The first half of the season will close on Tuesday night. Here are the matchups:
STPauls and Slidell. First place team vs. seventh place team. No drama here. FrankieBabie can have the night off. Is it true that only Ford can score for The Green Tigers?
FHS and Covington. Second place vs. last place. Again, no drama here. Dawgs finish first half of district in second place (as I predicted)
Ponchatoula and Mandeville. Finally some drama. Third place at stake. Ponchatoula has high powered offense against Mandeville solid defense. Defenders on the Northshore don't get credit but someone at Skipperville is doing good. What will RyanMyNewHero do.
Hammond and Northshore. Battle for 5th place and keep alive a shot for a playoff berth. Simon says vs. Ian's D.
Biggest surprise so far -- Bottom dwellers hammond and ponchatoula are no longer pushovers. And Northshore's fall in the standings. Good coach plus young team means close games.

my predictions for tomorrow night...
St Pauls - 5 Slidell - 2
Of course frankie with another hat trick, and ford with both goals from slidell...
Fontainebleau - 4 Covington - 0
FHS are on a good run now, not being scored on in the past 3 games, and scoring 16 (that is if the score that was posted in the other thread vs holy cross was correct at 7-0)
Mandeville - 3 Ponchy - 2
should be a very thrilling matchup, i take Mandeville though because i think their defense can get the ball to their offense faster than ponchys can... this one should be very close at the end, perhaps even needing pks to decide winner.
Northshore - 4 Hammond - 1
northshore is a powerful and physical team, and their offense should rumble over hammond. but hammond might come out strong with some confidence at fridays good performance, but northshore has the quality to bring them down.

i should probably stop making predictions after I called St. Paul's to beat Hammond 6-0, but here goes anyways...
SPS 4 - 2 SHS St. Paul's will most likely still be without two defensive starters. This one is hard to predict. If St. Paul's ends the slump here it could be a blowout, if not, it could be an upset in the making... after all not many people thought Israel and Hammond would take St. Paul's to a 3-2 game
FHS 5 - 0 CHS Fontainebleau is playing well of late and they shouldn't need much to put this Covington squad away early.
MHS 2- 0 PHS Mandeville has a solid D and will shut down Ryan. Once again, junior Ben Roussel for the Skippers is a solid sweeper. Should have the talent on the offensive side of the ball to net a couple.
HHS 2 - 1 NHS Not sure quite what is making me feel this one right now, as I have said all year that Northshore is stronger than their record indicates. I think Hammond will be coming with steam after a close loss to the Wolves.

St Pauls over Slidell 1-0... dont even ask probably 40 shots on goal every one strait to the keeper... st pauls keep touched it three times the whole game... it was dominated by sps they just could not find the net

i saw the sps vs slidell game.. if sps could keep their shots on target, it would greatly increase their chance on scoring. slidell just played them hard and sps started to get frusterated when they found out that slidell wasnt going to just roll over and die like they expected. with 2 minutes left to go, sps played a nice through ball to one of their forwards with a nice shot far post. slidell had many chances to score, unlike what lakeview said, but poor finishing kept them away from the net. in my opinion, sps just isnt the team they used to be or say they still are !

1/10.06 NHS 2 HHS 0 Half time score 1-0, NHS put first goal in very early. HHS played strong- very late on second half-maybe 5 min to play NHS put 2nd one in. Saw first goal, not second but what I saw was good game.

in my opinion, sps just isnt the team they used to be or say they still are ! I am in total disagreement with you here... SPS is still a great team, they are just in a slump right now (much like FHS after their loss to SPS). Here are some interesting statistics to consider: In the 15 games leading to the final in the St. Paul's Tourney, St. Paul's had 66 goals. That is an average of 4.4 goals per game. In the 15 games leading to the final in the St. Paul's Tourney, St. Paul's had given up 16 goals. That is an average of 1.07 goals per game. Since then, in the 4 games St. Paul's has played, including the final against Jesuit, St. Paul's has scored just 7 goals. That is an average of just 1.75 goals per game. Also, in the last 4 games St. Paul's has played, including the final against Jesuit, St. Paul's has given up 7 goals. That is an average of 1.75 goals per game. Clearly the slump is obvious in the statistics. 4.4 goals for average vs. 1.07 goals against average clearly indicates that St. Paul's can be a powerhouse team. However, the late 1.75 goals for average vs. the 1.75 goals against average also shows that St. Paul's is beatable when playing badly. Right now, things just aren't clicking for St. Paul's. The good news for the Wolves is that the slump hasn't cost them a district game... YET. They will play a tough Northshore squad and it is important that they put all of this slump talk behind them and get the W.

I also agree that SPS was not as almighty as these forums have made them out to be. Do not get me wrong, they are very good, and did have many more shots that SHS last night. SHS seemed to have 2 sweepers(#11 & #12) in the box most of the game, and this altered the shot angles of SPS so that the majority of shots went right to the SHS keeper. And as far as the scoring goal by SPS, the SPS player could have easily been called offsides, but the far linesman was a wee bit out of position.

So, now that half of the season has been played, how is the All District team shaping up to be?

mvp on offfense is FrankieBabie at St Pauls
on defense I'll go with Ben Rousel at Mandeville
others who have done well this year are Crane and Mingo from St pauls, Ford at Slidell, Jackson at FHS, and Ryan at Ponchy. Add Isreal at Hammond. Barrial at Covington.
Ian at Northshore also runs a pretty good D. St pauls has only given up 6 goals. Can't say there is a clear standout.
I did not list a keeper. which keeper do you want on your team?

I hav e been out of touch a coouple of months. what caused Northshore to fall so quickly in only a year? Is it talent, coaching, leadership or all of the above? I heard they had 12 seniors on Varsity, more than last year. This was supposed to be their year to win State. Any responses? State?

PREDICTIONS FOR FRIDAY NIGHT!
St Pauls - 3 Northshore - 3
SPS wins on PKs... I think northshore can hold stpauls and play a great game considering that sps is in a slump, and have not had a decisive win since their loss to the J.
Fontainebleau - 3 Mandeville - 1
Should be a very entertaining game to watch. Fountainblues D will hold while their offense chips away at Mandy D. This is definitely one of the best games statewide this week, and if you can make it go watch.
Hammond - 2 Covington - 1
Hammonds attack can get it done here and the Lions remain winless throughout district.
Ponchy - 4 Slidell - 2
Ford IS slidell, so he gets 2, while ponchy rumbles over their D.

Predictions: St pauls over Northshore 3-0. Wolves are too good to continue the slump. Northshore will not roll over but just doesn't have the horsepower to keep up.
Fountainebleau and Mandeville. A 1-1 tie at end of regulation, and the 2 10-minute OT's, and the 2 5-minute OT's. Can't pick a PK winner here. . . . oh well, I'll go for the upset.
Hammond and Covington. Can Covington go 0-8 in district. The answer is yes.
Ponchatoula and Slidell. Tigers came close to StP. Momentum to beat Ponchy? Not this weekend.

This is a totally unbased prediction... I like to think of it as a hunch. Frankie gets at least two for the Wolves and they win big. But really who knows?

Which one is the upset? Mandy over FHS or FHS over Mandy? both of these teams are DEAD even almost, i just have that feeling that since this is probly the biggest rivalry on the northshore that FHS can pull it off.

The MHS defense is very good behind the leadership of junior Ben Roussel.
