just some word on the key fhs vs sps matchup this friday... senior captain, forward and leading goalscorer andrew crane will miss the game for the wolves... thats a huge blow to the wolves offense as the forward position is where they have the least depth this year... i think will be running at full speed though and both teams are gonna be running full speed...
Predictions:
St. Paul's - 2 Fontainebleau - 1 This one will be very close, especially with the Wolves leading scorer out. Should be a large crowd and lots of noise. Field conditions will be rough. Both sides are extremely pumped up about the game and will be ready to play. I think this will be a defensive struggle and St. Paul's will come out on top.
Northsore - 4 Slidell - 1 Northshore has a pretty talented squad this year with a good coach. They should take it to Slidell.
Mandeville - 2 Covington - 0 Mandeville plays great defense and if Covington plays the defensive game they did vs. St. Paul's, I can't see them scoring on this Mandeville defense. Should be a good game to watch though.
Hammond - 2 Pontchatoula - 3 Pontchatoula has a decent offense and should be able to squeeze by the Tors in this one.

the friday night game between fhs and sps will be key to both of their seasons... if fhs wins they provve that they can play with the best... if sps wins they show their depth and the fact that they can play through adversity... this one is setting up to be the big game of the season right now.

Say what? Crane has more goals that FrankieBabie? No way. not in district play, but on the season i think crane has 18 or 19. but frankie is definitely not far behind.

St Pauls - 7 Fontainebleau - 3
Score does NOT do justice to the way FHS played... They came out intense but were stunned with a quick goal from about 30 yards out... They got up and fought back, quickly adding 2 goals to make it 2 - 1. SPS had 3 more goals before half... Half 4-2 Second half SPS dominated posession, and got 2 more before FHS got a PK, missed the shot, but made the rebound. Then SPS got one more. The score that I see that would do justice to FHS would be 5-3... They came out with TONS of heart, and it was thrilling to watch from the stands. Overall GREAT heart and fight in FHS, but the quick skills and speed for SPS helped them prevail...
Ohh and frankie had like 2 or 3... again

Ponchy-5 Hammond-1
Lost of injuries and sloppy play were the Tor's downfall. Much closer game if it is played in Hammond with no injuries and a slightly better ref.
Both teams came out fired up but after Ponchy scored its 3rd goal the Tors seemed to lay down and die.

seemed hammond played a little better in the second half, but the coach took out their 2 starting forwards (number 21 and number 3) and put in JV players with 20 minutes left in the game, not enough time for a full comeback, but they created a few opportunities and in the time left, could have maybe closed the gap a little.

Yeah but that is because Israel Ripley(#3) was injured and so was a midfielder #10 (Jeremy Bobbsemple so there was no point in getting another senior hurt. J.V. players didn't do too badly though.

israel (3) wasnt hurt, daniel bankston (21) got hurt a couple of times and from what he told me the head coach didnt give much of a reason for taking them out, but the jv like you say didnt do too badly.

Israel Ripley didn't get injured. Jeremy Bobb-Semple was thought to have shin splints. Daniel Bankston has several nagging injuries, and the usual stopper, John Holly, was out of the game with a knee injury that he believes in tendonitis. Coach Dexter had no reason for taking out the Varsity team, but, I thought the J.V. did pretty well. As a player for both J.V. and Varsity, I thought that the last 20 minutes of the game were the best we played as a unit, and we created a few chances. Ponchatoula's offense just overpowered our 3 defenders toward the end when we went to a 3-5-2.

I didn't see the Hammond / Ponchatoula game but I did see Hammond play Covington and I have a couple of observations about Isreal. First let me say he is VERY talented, BUT, he was much better last season. Why? I think he has gotten a little lazy and he doesn't give the ball off enough. When a teammate passed to him it didn't come back. Again, I'm a fan of Isreal and I hope he gets his act together because he has the potential to be great. But having potential really means you are not getting the job done. Just my thoughts.

I had posted earlier that the results of the SPS vs. FHS game would tell one of two things... with an SPS win it would prove that SPS can play through adversity and that FHS was a pretender and not a contender, or, with a FHS win that FHS does have a very strong squad and that SPS may not be as strong or have as much depth as it seemed. Interestingly enough, I got one of those predictions right for each outcome. While SPS did win and show their depth, talent, and big game capability, FHS not only proved that they can play, but also proved that they can play with the best. So I would just like to correct my previous statement and say that SPS is the team to beat, with depth, talent and experience and they are the ones to look out for in state this year. Also, FHS showed their potential in a huge game for them and I think they will continue to improve as the season goes on and become a serious contender when playoffs roll around. Congrats to FHS on a great game...

Shanksta, that is very admirable of you to help state fontainebleaus case as a team still capable of competing with the state's best. Many think that the score does indeed mean that fhs isnt as strong as they were thought to be, but that is totally incorrect, as you said above. And much props to st. pauls for being able to put a tough team away. The next game should also be another good one.

I don't post scores unless I am at the game first hand. I have a varsity son on the team. The first half I spent watching the game from the concession stand which is not an advantage point to give great play by play summaries. SPS may have not been playing their best as another post by a SPS fan stated. Hammond was also missing some Senior players as well as one of our Junior key forwards playing ill. Credit for Hammond, the first goal against St Pauls was by a freshman player. The second goal by HHS very late in the second half was from a drive up the field by another freshman who snuck in a short pass to a Senior who was positioned correctly to shoot on goal. The HHS team has solid talent that needs to gel and only will be better next year.
