With District games getting back to full swing tonight, the District's key game is a clash of the unbeaten in district play tonight at 6:00 at Burbank. St. Joe and BRHS WILL settle first place in the district. The problem with district play is that by following your own team you miss the opportunity to view other games that are occurring at the same time.

Despite the tragedy that took place within the Woodlawn family, the majority of the team opted to play tonight's games versus Parkview. They played without 4 key players and faced Parkview with 10 players.
The outcome was never in doubt although Woodlawn only trailed by 2 at halftime. Lack of subs and too few players, Woodlawn fell to defeat 7-0

Prior to last nights game, the Woodlawn team learned of the untimely death of it's popular and well liked Athletic Director and head football coach, Kyle Acosta. Emotions ran strong but the majority of team decided to play. Despite playing against 10 players, Parkview played starters majority of game with Johnson directing the attack till the very end even with the game well in hand. Game would have been much closer if Parkview had faced a Woodlawn with all it's starters and more than 10 players.

What Rivers2 failed to mention was Woodlawn started the game without 5 of their normal starters and then lost another 7 or so minutes into the game reducing them to 10.

Can't believe there is such a discussion regarding Woodlawns loss to Parkview. Sounds like a terrible situation for Woodlawn to play under but they were not going to compete with Parkview even at full strength. Just to clarify, Parkview cleared the bench and Johnson was moved to sweeper after 4-0 lead but it is really irrelevant since it turned into a "friendly" match following the tragedy with Woodlawns AD.

According to you, Vision, games should be played on paper and not on the field. I find it interesting the assumption of non-compete. What a statement to make. Did you assume that Mandeville would compete or that a 2-0 halftime lead would beat BRHS. I agree that PHS would be favored against a full team from WHS. Contrary to your opinion, WHS can compete with anyone. A team of your supposed caliber being up by only a 2-0 score at halftime against 10 girls, four of whom average less than two minutes a game shows what competing is all about. There is nothing "friendly" about going for the score in the latter stages of a game well in hand versus an emotionally drained undermanned team that according to you couldn't compete no matter what. Some folks call that classless.

Sorry rivers2, Woodlawn seems to be a "classy" team with a few good players. I meant no offense, but dropping your best player to sweeper and putting reserves at the forward positions does not represent trying to run up a score, or seem "classless" to me. I wish Woodlawn the best but it is my opinon based on what I have seen (not just last night) that they are the 4th best team in their district and even further down the list on "best in the area".

I have no axe to grind with you, Vision or your team. I also agree that we are the # 5 team ( not 4th) within our own district. You are the one who said even at full strength we couldn't compete with PHS. I do not harbor any notion that we could beat you but by God we can compete with you and put up a fight against anyone. As to having the lead well in hand, MOST teams facing a team in Woodlawn's situation go into a defensive, passing offense instead of an attacking offense where scores are sought. In the soccer circles that I'm familiar with coaches instruct their team to not score. I'm sorry, I just find playing a player of Johnson's stature all the way to the end unnecessary. I have no ill feeling toward the PHS program at all.....just given the circumstances of last nights game and the willingness of an undermanned team to compete when we should have probably walked then attacking the goal to the very end was not right. My issue is your use of the term "not compete" versus saying not gonna win. I don't believe you are qualified to say whether another team is gonna compete or not. Websters defines COMPETE to be in a state of rivalry, to contend.

Good points. I believe the teams have played each other almost every year and want to keep a respectful relationship. Best of luck to you and your team.

I completely agree with you about a respectable relationship. After all we are neighbors. In hindsight, we should thank you..... next years game will give us extra incentive and hopefully we will be able to compete. Best of luck to your team as well.

Parkview and Woodlawn are not in the same class soccer wise. However with a game never in doubt, Parkviews coach did not empty his bench until late, and with the possible exception of one goal in which a defender got in the keeper's way (actually she should have headed the ball off the line instead of ducking), I belive all the goals were scored by PBS front line players, not reserves, including one that was called back for offsides.
Enough on this game. There was a BIG one across town between the top two teams, and yet I see no discussion about it.
Come on, how about someone telling those of us who had to sit through a miserable rout, what happened when the titans of the district collided.

Will Woodlawn have their full squad for Friday's game with St.Amant. I twould be a shame to have so mant excuses for a District game. Woodlawn has some good players, Why is it the Parents seem to have more to say about how unfair life is. It is High School soccer where each School can end with any level of player. Support your team, praise them for what they achieve with what they have, not what they might have had!!

The Woodlawn parents certainly don't want to ruffle your feathers, CERTIFIED or whatever. We apologize for our team hearing such tragic news on their opponents field but still having 10 players to say "LET'S PLAY". I am in nothing BUT praise for these courageous young ladies. You sound like a complete moron who would tell the armless man to go take his beating against a prize fighter and not lament the fact that he has no arms. No, we won't have our full team against STA but as long as we have 11 and the pain of losing a valued Woodlawn family member to his death has subsided, there ,as you say, will be no excuses. Speaking of a life, yours will be enriched greatly by learning to speak and spell on a public forum.

What kind of a percentage of the post on this website have Woodlawn parents made, compared to the other schools in this district or even state (even before the tragedy)?
