There was a lot of debate about Split-log (would love to see her play), so i propose the question who is the best goalie in each district, division, etc....

Man, its hard to resist the tandem of goalies they have at BRHS. Both the varsity and JV goalie are exceptional. I would say those 2 and Split-log are the top in Div I District 4.

I have seen Valarie play, her strengths are: Positioning, attacking the ball and shot blocking. Her weaknesses are: Agility, reflexes and arial. She is one of the leaders on the Woodlawn team. (should get alot of practice this season)!!

As much as it pains me to compliment Acadiana (yes goahsrams and ladyramdad I do respect your program!!) the goalie Acadiana uses, Debra Hill, is by far the best goalie we have seen year to date. She is tall and moves all around the box. She made a diving goal saving opportunity on my daughter that no other goalie in the state could have gotten to. She is only a sophmore and if you can put up with her mom (of course I love her too!!!) she is a proven force that can take Acadiana deep into the playoffs. Of course put a dominant defense in front of a dominant keeper and both look that much better.

Div III, Dist. III
One of the best goalkeepers in the State, Hannah Linzay is a freshman at Bolton High School. She is fearless and I look to see more of her in the future, with bright hopes for a collegiate career.

Being overlooked so far is another Goalkeeper. Catherine Grubb at McKinley is two years removed from a championship side at Ben Franklin, now toiling in anominity on a team that much like Woodlawn probably won't make the playoffs and if they do, will be playing against one of the higher ranked teams, and consequently may be there only briefly. As far as Split-log goes, sound fundamentals and positioning allows her to make a lot of difficult saves look easier than they are. Agility and areial could use some work. And is being addressed with workouts out side of team practices, along side of the Tara keeper, Lana Ashford.

Seems as though these are starting to get a regional flavor. Maybe the question should be rephrased to ask "Who is the best GK you have played against this year, or who would you most like between the pipes in a tight game." The district winners will probably garner the most votes whether or not they are the best at the position.

Well in The Division I districts in North Louisiana I would have to say that the Ruston goalkeeper has impressed me the most so far. She is very aggressive and puts herself in good position to make saves. She knows how to play angles well and will challenge for the ball. That being said I have not seen all the goalkeepers in Division I in North La, so there could be somebody else that is better.

A wise man brought something to my attention and being a former goalie I will present this to you. Is a goalie who has a good defense in front of her and only has to save a couple of balls a game truly the best goalie or are the goalies who are the only reason their team does get blown out every game the talented ones? Sometimes the number of goals allowed is not a good indication of the goalies talent, it may say something about the weak defense in front of her.
I will give you this. A long time ago, very long, there was a keeper at SSA. Her name was Hope Handley and she was fun to watch. I know I used to stand down at the other end of the field for 80 minutes and watch her. But anyway SSA would get beaten 5-0, 10-0 etc. but without Hope in goal they would have easily been beaten 25-0. Every game she played in she had 20+ saves and was voted all-district and all-metro off of a team that I believe lost every game of the season.
So can we honestly say that just because a goalie is on a good team and rarely ever has to touch the ball then she is a great keeper. I think I have one of the best keepers in Division III. She makes great saves, is physical, and has a good command of her box. But she does field a lot of shots and has had 2-3 games with 20+ saves. Goalies can't save everything. And I truly think it is the hardest position on the field mentally. If your team wins no one notices you but if you lose people quickly forget that the ball had to get through ten other people to get to you. Just a thought.

Listen Pompey.... Back when I was in school besides walking uphill both to and from school, we learned to write on slate tables, and 'MR Grog' the writing teacher, would whack us with a Mastadon thighbone, if we made a mistake. Plus having to go get some mud to fillin the mistake and start over, so typing is very difficult for this old codger.

Have seen Parkview keeper twice now. Against Woodlawn ( had to take one goalkick - it went straight to WHS forward and Johnson fixed boo-boo), and against Redemptorist where she only made one good save, that was on a ball shot fron the top of the 18 (straight on in the arc) and she tipped it over the bar, slapped down several through balls insteasd of catching them cleanly. Based on those two games it is unfair to say she should not be considered the the best Goal Keeper in Baton Rouge, I would have to see her in a game where she is under pressure though, before anointing her as "The All Metro Goal Keeper" this year.

Grace Gilbreath, a sophmore, at E.D. White will definetly play at a higher level. Being part of another program and having close to 80-90 shots on her goal in 3 games I have had the pleasure of watching her make some outstanding saves. She played for NOSA and ODP.

No Mr. Pompey, I'm very sure she's a Sophmore. Please correct me if I'm wrong with a Chelsea Smile. Also, Parkview had 10 goals scored against them by Vandebilt. I don't know if the goalkeeper in question from Parkview was in goal that day.

Parkview's keeper was not in that game, nor were most of the starters. It was the last game of tournament pool play and reserves played majority of game. Still, was a lot of goals and possibly says a lot about team depth.

Vision, you are right that it was the last game of the pool. However, if Parkview had won that game they would have advanced to the Semi's. Are you saying that Parkview deliberately threw the game so they wouldn't have to advance. Also, why was the Johnson girl playing for the full game. I do not buy the fact that reserves would play in a crucial game. Furthermore, I think the coaches would have made changes quickly to rectify the scoreline if they could. Something just doesn't add up unless Parkview did throw the game which I totally doubt. Even the parents from Parkview (in the stands) had said they had never seen anything like it. Good Luck to you guys for the rest of the season.
