Tough game over at Griffin Stadium tonight. Must send out a big compliment to the Lady Gators keeper, Samantha Jackson - extremely awesome saves throughout the game.

Have to concur with soccerrouge on the play of the STA keeper, and STA worked hard on defense all game long. A review of the video shows the DTHS offense was in very high gear, but the score didn't show it. I counted at least three point blank rocket shots saved, plus one header stopped before the rebound was then put in by Miss English.
DTHS also missed two headers off corners close in and at least one volley shot close in appeared to have been deflected by a defensive player jumping in front with arms up, and the ball off the arm - in the box. Many other chances too, but to no result for DTHS.
STA played well in their defensive third - bending but not breaking. DTHS seemed to have room in the midfield to work the ball in close, but then just couldn't find a way to finish like they have in so many games this year. STA had fewer good opportunities, but finally finished one late and then just missed another. It took a really fine play for DTHS to win in OT - a good pass was received on the run, controlled on a sprint thru a couple bounces shoulder to shoulder with the defensive player, and finally shot past an outstretched keeper.
STA played a good game and came up just short. This game was a lot of fun to watch, especially for the DTHS fans. STA has really played DTHS well in both games, and especially this one. STA wanted this one bad, and it showed.

2/1/08 1st Round of Playoffs:
Northshore 1 Dutchtown 0
Here is a little recap of the Dutchtown/Northshore contest:
If there is one thing for certain, come playoff time, if you don't bring your 'A' game, you will be exiting early. Northshore brought their 'A' game, Dutchtown did not - result Northshore 1 Dutchtown 0.
1st Half - Game was pretty much played in the midfield until Northshore forward launched a shot from about 20 out that hit the crossbar, this shot apparently woke Dutchtown up a bit, as they began to up the attack. Northshore played extremely solid defense, which forced the Lady Griffins to work hard for every shot they were able to get. The first half ended 0-0, with Dutchtown leading in SOG 8 - 2. 2nd Half - Dutchtown came out much more aggressive on the attack and the majority of the second was spent on Northshore's defensive 3rd. However, Northshore's defense would bend but not break. Several good shots by Dutchtown found iron as Cruthirds and Gibbs found the crossbar and the post. Jimenez missed on a rebound off the crossbar with a header that went over on an open net. The deadlock finally seemed to be broken when Leanne Johnson curved a corner kick from the left side inside the post for an apparent 1-0 lead. However as teams were lining up at mid-field, the center waived off the goal on a mysterious obstruction call. There were several bodies in the box, and there was no real attempt for the ball by anyone, including the keeper until the ball had already broken inside the post. Less than 4 minutes later a breakdown in the D-Town defense allowed a Northshore attacker to get in behind and she banked a shot of the far post which went in for the game winner. Dutchtown had several more opportunities prior to the end of the game, but fell short of finding the back of the net. Dutchtown finished the game with a 19-6 edge on SOG, but the one that counted came from Northshore. Congratulations to the Lady Panthers of Northshore on a great game, and an extremely impressive defensive performance. Good Luck in the rest of the playoffs.
Now to Cruthirds: Chelsea began to have problems midway through the first half with her calf muscles locking up. At half time I worked on them to try and loosen them up, however they continued to be tight. With about 10 minutes to go in the 2nd half, Chelsea went down on the field with both calf muscles locking up on her. She was taken off the field opposite the bench side, where several of us worked on her calf muscles for quite some time. Could not get the tremors in her left leg to stop and could not get her right leg to loosen. She was taken by ambulance, where IVs were started, to a local hospital. I contacted her dad about an hour after the game completed, and they had just completed giving her a second bag of fluids. He told me she was doing fine now, and that the tremors in her left leg had stopped and the muscles in her right had finally relaxed. Happy to report that Chelsea is doing fine now.
Thanks to everyone for the thoughts, concern and prayers, I know Chelsea and her family really appreciate it.
