Chelsea's fine. like you said she is a tough girl. Fluids did the trick on the legs, of course it couldn't do the trick for the disappointment, but time will take care of that.
I may still be in flight back from Florida Wednesday night, but I'm expecting a victory !!

Byrd 2 EA 1 Good hard play throughout, extremely physical game, but zero yellow cards. I'd have Byrd at about 65-70 % of possession first half and took deserved lead. Breakdown in the middle, opens up for a cross, sent in low and ball in back of the net. Halftime 1-0. EA comes out much stronger second half, at times took it to Byrd - though defensively Byrd never quite looked like cracking. A high high ball sent in from defense allowed forward to time the bounce and head over stranded GK. 1-1. Around 15 mins left scrambled goal, comes off shin of EA and hits the net, 2-1. All out panic and throwing caution to the wind as EA tries to tie it up. 3 mins left, superb rip by EA forward and an amazing point blank save by BHS GK.........and that was all she wrote.
I am proud of the Lady Spartans - a VERY impressive return back to the big dogs in 5A. Huge congrats to Byrd, very impressive bunch of young ladies, you can tell it is a senior ladden crew, extremely well disciplined and very well coached. I wish them the very best.
Really good night for soccer, big crowd, like to think both sets of supporters had fun.
Good luck to everyone the rest of the way who are still involved. Comiserations if now out.
Coaches, keep doing the good stuff. The W is great and fun, but the other lessons we teach are more important and long lasting.

CONGRATS to the Lady Spartans for a great season... I, and the Boys, wished we could have been more present for the Girls games this season... You all fought very hard tonight and left it all on the pitch. You made all of us proud Goodie... you're the man District 6 coaches - we may need to change that for next season so Boys and Girls games are not on the same night!

It pays to win the district if you want recognition for your players. By the way congratulations to both first and second team players, I thing the coaches did a good job if selecting those most deserving of the honors. I may question a few selections but I didn't see every team everytime they played.

condolences to those deserving players who were overlooked or ignored (you know who you are). the all district list is NOT a list of the BEST players and will not be as long as the coaches require representation from each district team.
let's see, the best defense allowed only 3 goals, so naturally the mvp honors went to the second and third place teams - what a joke. probably has something to do with the coaches mind set of not having all mvp's from the same team, deserved or not. come on, offense honors to two teams who didn't even have a winning record. another slap in the face to more deserving players.
sportswriters or even referees who see all the players should have some input; something needs to be done to recognize those who deserve it.

I suspect that the voting this year was based on more than actual merit.
Some of these decisions make me truly scratch my head.
The coaches at these meetings make deals with each other to get their favored players, completely disregarding who actually deserves it.
That's not to say that some of those kids didn't deserve it; some of them most certainly did!
If it was up to me, there wouldn't be all-district in a TEAM sport. For the few kids that it raises up, it knocks down twice as many EQUALLY DESERVING kids.

I'm in total agreement. How did Dutchtown win district and have the same number of kids on first team as the THIRD place team? It makes me wonder if the motive behind this is to truly acknowledge the best kids or to simply have coach's favorites on the team.

Breakdown: Destrehan- 8 St. Amant- 8 East Ascension- 9 Dutchtown- 9 Hahnville- 8 ESJ- 1
Why didn't they just put the starting 11 for 1st-5th place in district?
Hopefully the BR All-Metro Team is a better representation than this 43(?!?!?!) player-long list.

usually the district winner has the most selections and the fourth and fifth places, in this case hahnville and destrehan, have very few. perhaps the new district has new rules and all the coaches MUST leave happy.
the all metro team will be a complete farce because the mvp's from all the districts automatically are nominated and usually selected. so here's district 6 with those mvp's from the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place teams. deserving, no, but that's the system until someone stands up for change.

The All Metro vote usually is a little more democratic than the All District in that a new set of coaches are involved and brokered deals while still happening are not as prevalent.
I have no opinion one way or the other who was chosen but 43 people selected is simply too much. With so many chosen it dilutes the significance of making All District and on the other hand since so many were chosen it opens up conjecture why so and so was left off.
The coaches first responsibility should be to pick the top 11 players in their district regardless of team record......they know who they are. Then focus on a few subs.....in other words, pick a team you'd ideally want to coach. Granted District 6 was a new formation this year and possibly coaches were not as familiar with other teams personnel but most coaches are well aware of talent within their district.
It's nice to recognize as many girls as possible as they ALL are winners but do so at their year ending banquet.....why dilute that which should be honor reserved for the most deserving
The players as a rule know who the best players are.....now the parents are a different animal.

Having so many kids on the all district team makes all the kids feel worse. For those who got the "honor," it's not the big deal that it would have been if there were a smaller amount of kids on the district team. And for the kids who didn't make it, they'll be thinking ,"Hey, I'm just as good as that kid and I didn't make it." How will that kid feel? Not great.
And if there are a select number who make it, then those kids that didn't make it will look and say, "Hey, I didn't make it, but all those kids who did are really, really good."
Plus, everywhere else, you'll never find a district team with 43 players.
It's absolutely positively ludicrous.

Congrats to Lexi Gibbs on being the only Freshman to be selected. She had an outstanding season this year teaming up well with Cruthirds.
Coach of the Year- It would have been nice to see it go to the coach from East St. John. Even after being beaten by +10 goals in a game on multiple occasions the coach had the girls still really wanting to play on the last day of the season (unfortunately they didn't get the opportunity to).
As for next year- Watch out for D-Town with there likely to be two or three new "Lexi Gibbs" this Dutchtown team has as good a shot as any to win a state championship.

Perhaps a little perspective here...
District Champs, Dutchtown 9-0, sweeps EA (+6 GD), sweeps STA (+4 GD), sweeps Hahnville (+6 GD), sweeps Destrehan (+4 GD), sweeps ESJ. Has worse GD vs. the 2nd and 4th place teams than 3rd and 5th, interesting.
District Runner Up, East Ascension 7-3, swept by DTHS (-6 GD), splits w/ STA (-2 GD), sweeps HHS (+2 GD, won in PKs second game), sweeps DHS (+4 GD), sweeps ESJ. Wins 4 of 7 matches (1 vs. STA, 2 vs. HHS, 1 vs. DHS) by a combined 4 goals.
3rd Place, St. Amant 6-4, swept by DTHS (-4 GD), splits with EA (+2 GD), splits with HHS (+1 GD), sweeps DHS (+3 GD), sweeps ESJ. Has better GD vs. DTHS (1st) than EA (2nd), splits with 2nd and 4th place, takes DTHS to OT in second matchup.
4th Place, Hahnville 4-6, swept by DTHS (-6 GD), swept by EA (-2 GD), splits with STA (-1 GD), splits with DHS (+/- 0 GD), sweeps ESJ. Holds DTHS scoreless in 2 of 4 halves played, takes EA to PKs in second matchup, splits with 3rd and 5th place.
5th Place, Destrehan 3-7, swept by DTHS (-4 GD), swept by EA (-4 GD), swept by STA (-3 GD), splits with HHS (+/- 0 GD), sweeps ESJ. Loses by 1 goal vs. DTHS in second matchup, loses by 1 goal vs. EA in second matchup, loses to HHS in 2OT and wins second match.
My point is the fact that this district top to bottom was as competitive (if not moreso) as any other district in the state. The info above speaks to the level of competition, and I think the distribution of players from each team reflects this.
I do have my own feelings about the quantity of players, it's been my experience that ultimately someone will be left out for one reason for another. I think the process should dictate this. I do agree that excessive recognition does undermine the significance of the team.
As far as coaches "wheeling and dealing" to get their kids recognized, I can personally assure you this did not happen during this process regarding this particular All-District team.

I certainly agree that the district is competitive, but that's all the more reason for the teams on top to get the most players on the all-district teams. Dutchtown was first place in a very competitive district. They should get more kids on the team to reflect this.
43 kids is simply too much, especially when there are other kids that are just as if not MORE deserving to be up on that list.
That's why sometimes its more trouble than its worth to have an all-district team.
After all, as others have said, it is a TEAM sport.

Looking at the league scoring table absent games involving the inflated scoring against E. St. John tells a story about the Dutchtown defense.
Dutchtown 24 PF 3 PA EA 10 PF 12 PA St. Amant 18 PF 14 PA Hahnville 5 PF 14 PA Destrehan 7 PF 22 PA
Dutchtown scored more goals than anyone, but also gave up nothing compared to any other team. While none of the Dutchtown back line or keeper made first team mention, the results speak for themselves.
I also echo the favorable remarks about the play of Miss Gibbs of Dutchtown. This is the third year in a row that Dutchtown has had a freshman come in and make a huge difference. She was clearly one the very top contributors to the team both in scores and in assists. Not many freshmen join a team in the manner she did – her first exposure to the team is some playing time against Sacred Heart and she scores two goals in about 5 minutes, and just missed two more in the closing minutes. She closes out the last St. Amant game in overtime collecting a ball from Cruthirds in the air on the dead run and beats two defenders and a keeper for the win. Unfortunately, sometimes the label of freshman is sometimes more important than the actual contributions that have been made.
Miss Cruthirds certainly deserves all the recognition. She followed a solid freshman season with a tremendously versatile second year and it was obvious from the very start of the season that this would be a special year for her.
