First test of the season for the Barbe Lady Bucs and they come away with a 3-1 win over Kelly (Bmt, TX). Good early win in a hard fought physical game. Soccer complex looking the best it ever has with some great additions to the best soccer complex in the state. Looking forward to everyone seeing the off season additions.

Thursday Nov 8th Barbe 4 DeRidder 0. Barbe High Dedicated the newly created Picnic Pavilion to a member of the Barbe Soccer family killed in Iraq last year. Huge turnout with stands full and standing room only in the pavilion. Largest crowd I have ever seen attend a Barbe Soccer game and tribute fitting for a hero as Chase Edwards truly was. Field is looking amazing and I am looking forward to all to see the additions to the complex.

Acadiana-0 CHNI-3
Very good game for CHNI, attacked well. Acadiana got things going well in the second half with many chances late. New trainer looked like he was still sorting out the girls. I hear they are still missing 5 starters from last year due to club ball. Looks like a few freshman could make a good impact this year.

Sulphur 3, NISH 2
halftime - Sulphur 3, NISH 1
Goals scored by Sulphur - Hilarie Grigsby 2, Alexandra Zambrano 1
JV game - Sulphur 1, NISH 1 - Sulphur goal by Carmen Rodriquez
Sulphur had a couple girls go down with injuries during the game. The NISH trainer was extremely helpful during the game and even checked up on the girls after the game. To the NISH coaching staff and trainers we thank you. You showed our girls respect and sportsmanship, something they won't forget. We wish them the best.

Another epic battle at Barbe Soccer Complex between Barbe and St Louis with Barbe earning a 5-3 win. St Louis is a great team, just a little over matched tonight with the speed and attack of Barbe's offense. This St Louis team prided themselves last year of going over 2 months without giving up a goal before losing to Newman in the Semi's 2-1 and Barbe hands 5 on them tonight. Two players from St Louis really stood out tonight in Nat Ieyoub and Missy Minton. All of St Louis's offense seems to go thru Minton even though she is the sweeper. She can throw the ball 30 yards and all free kicks/corner kicks are taken by her. And then there is Nat Ieyoub. I guess what frustrates me more than anything is that both Minton and Ieyoub both live in Barbe school district and Nat's house I can see from my press box. Nat controls the ball better than ANY player coming to Barbe (and this is a district last year that had Lafayette, Acadiana, Comeaux, etc.). Great ball control and foot skills and will score tons of goals against most teams. Pencil both Minton and Ieyoub as All State players from Division III this year. They are both the real deal.
On to the game....... St Louis jumps to an early 1-0 by a cross to an unmarked Ieyoub on the 6 that she puts in the back of the net. Barbe responses minutes later on a put back by Soph Ali Zaunbrecher for a 1-1 tie. Twenty minutes into first half St Louis scores on a corner by Minton that Maggie Laborbe deflects into the goal. Barbe scores minutes later on a beautiful kick from 25 yards out by Jana Barrow. Halftime score 2-2. Second half score by Minton on a free kick that keeper miss handled for a St Louis 3-2 lead. Tying goal on a rebound by Lolly Plummer for a 3-3 tie and then Barbe kicks it in. Jana Barrow scores her 2nd goal of the night for Barbe to take a 4-3 lead with 10 minutes left. Final goal is on a hand ball call with 30 secs left that Barrow nails for the hat trick and the final 5-3 score.
What impressed me most, besides a huge crowd at the Best Soccer Complex in the State, is Barbe's continual attack. Down 1-0, then 2-1, then 3-2, and Barbe continued to attack to tie the game and then take the lead late in the game.
Barbe is still not at 100% and will be next week when they travel to Comeaux for their 1st district game next Wednesday. This Barbe offense is explosive and I am looking forward to the battle next Friday against SSA, Dominican, and Sacred Heart. Should be some great games........

Barbedad,
Most people don't remember the St. Louis tournament last year, but Acadiana's Bacque and Verret put 4 goals in a well played 4-3 lost for St. Louis. I believe that those were the only two losses that a very good St. Louis defense gave up last year. Sounds like it will be another great season of soccer in the south that is steaming up early.

You are correct. Acadiana lit them up at their tournament the end of November and then the St Louis defense did not give another goal for 2 months until the loss to Newman in the semi's of state. St Louis is a really good team and will do well this year, and I have said all along, they are my 2nd favorite girls team in the state!!!

Wow... this year is as tough to predict as ever for District 3 even though there is only 5 teams but here goes: 1-2) Barbe and St Thomas More. I think there will be 2 great battles between these 2 teams with both needing to win at home. My guess is watch Jan 4th Barbe at STM. If Barbe wins at STM then Barbe will win The District 3 Title again this year. If STM wins on Jan 4th then I think there will be a 1 game playoff with the winner of the coin flip having the advantage of winning district. Sounds alot like last year with Barbe/Lafayette splitting at home and Barbe winning the coin toss and winning the District title at home. 3) I give Acadiana the edge over Comeaux. We could also see these 2 teams split and there will be a 1 game playoff for the 3rd place and playoff berth. 4) Comeaux 5) Sulphur. They could have contended for 3-4 but have one of their best defenders choosing not to play this year and are hit by the injury bug. But I will say this, and probably tick off a few people (that is something I rarely do!!). It is a shame that what ever team finishes in 4th in this district will be sitting at home come playoff time and the 4th and 5th place team in this district could have come in 2nd or 3rd in District 4 if the District Alignment would have put them in District 4 which next to District 2 is the weakest district in the state. Barbe has Nov 28th marked on their calender for weeks now with the 1st District battle with Comeaux at Comeaux. Barbe has not won at Comeaux in the last 4 years (all 1-0 losses) so they have plenty of motivation to win this one. Most other teams are off that night so come out and see this one. I can promise you Barbe will be ready for this one. Okay greenfury05, your turn...... How do you see this district playing out?

Too early to really tell, but most of your eary assessments are definately true. I guess it comes down to who lost who last year and how will last years bench players step up to take graduating seniors place. Here goes.
STM- Nearly all premier talent. Depends on how Fell puts them on the field. Most likely keeps many players playing their normal spots. Sound, solid players all around. Just recieved several players this past week from club ball, so earlier games do not really tell you that much.
Barbe- Loses key players on defense and in goal. Gets back a key forward to injury from last year. Moves Barrow to top and creating some stronger offense front. Solid midfield. Sounds like you can score, but defense untested, but looking good. Early games sounds like you guys have everyone there and are moving forward well.
Acadiana- Returns 9 of 11 starters from last year. Has on board some key freshman that will likely help immediately. New coach has been without 5 starters up until this past weekend. So the Weenie Bowl game against a nearly 100% St Louis that ended up in a 1-0 Acadiana loss may tell you they have much to be optimistic about. They will not get the services of last years 1st Team All District Forward Alex Bacque until December 3rd due to her club ball commitments. May take some time for this team to show how good they can be. They unfortunately do not have much time to work with, they face STM in their 1st district game this coming Tuesday at home. Smaller district may mean all games are important.
Comeaux- Key losses at defense, midfield will likely see this team struggle to make the playoffs. But if there is any team that knows how to battle with less, its Comeaux. Will rely heavily on underclassman to step up and play to keep them in ball games. This team seems to peak when they have to. Doubtfull they can fill the holes left behind from graduation.
Sulphur-They have already beaten NISH this year which most likely will have an easier road to the playoffs as you already pointed out. Have some good talent, but not real familiar with what they loss from last year and what they have picked up. All I know is they greatly improved from the begining of the year to the end last year. Most likely still a bit of work to do there before they can contend with many of the premier heavy schools in the district, but should represent themselves well.
Assessment- Most likely both predictions will stand up to the end. Getting into the playoffs is all that matters. Heavy favorites have bulls eyes on them, so the most important thing is to keep everyone healthy and peak at the end of the year. Just ask Sulphur, STM, and West Monroe Football programs! Keep your eye on the ones who are flying under the radar, Comeaux, Acadiana and Sulphur have plenty to upset almost anyone. If it came down to just paper, then all the bad calls, field conditions, injuries, lucky shots, unlucky shots, and all the variables that go into it, that's why we play the games. GOOD LUCK TO ALL THIS YEAR, in what promises to be a fantastic year of High School soccer.
