Tioga does not play Sam Houston until 11:00 AM on Saturday 1/7. Hope to report we're tied with ASH after that game.

I heard from my daughter that Sam Houston beat Tioga saturday 4-2. It was really a close game. The two teams are evenly matched. She wasn't there, but girls talk.

Tioga met a team that play European style like they do and had to adjust. Sam Houston's midfield did a good job of doing what any coach asks: backing up offense on attacks and falling back to help defense when attacked. It never helps when a Freshman keeper makes mistakes, the other team makes their pk and you miss yours and your center mid plays a basketball game that morning and arrives 3 minutes before kickoff. In other words, just another day in the lives of a high school soccer coach.
I have to mention Regan Allred. She was a big asset for Pineville last year and from what I was told returned to Sam Houston for her senior year. She was responsible for the first and last goal of the game. Erica Littleton did a great job of being in the right place to capitalize on errors for the other two goals.

Do not blame the loss on a "Freshman" goal keeper. Ten players stood in front of her. Each made a mistake, only hers is MAGNIFIED because she is the one who has to get the ball out of the back of the net. The upside of her being a Freshman, she has 3 more years to get better, and as a Senior she maybe the same one who everyone looks to, to lead the team, to victory. In short: the team should take responsibility for the loss don't point fingers at individuals. As far as the basketball player, that she is allowed to play to sports at the same time is great most coaches don't want to have "Their Players" dividing time between two sports at the same time so hats off to those two coaches who have found a way to work together, for the sake of the child..

Well, Tioga made up for that(SH defeat) with a defeat of ASH last night, 2-1. The GK made quite a few saves, though few were challenging. ASH wasted a ton of shots with weak rollers straight to the goalie. Pharris had the only goal for ASH.

PumaFc, Don't get me wrong, I totally agree that there are 10 on the field that teams have to go through before getting to the keeper. But when you are off your line and the ball kicked from the halfway line goes over your head, that's your error. She is a good keeper and three years will only see her become better. The basketball player from Saturday who was totally out of that game due to exhaustion had a phenomenal game in center mid against ASH last night. My point was it is those little behind the scene things that we have no control over that makes the difference sometimes in how a team performs on any given day. We are very proud of each and every one of the girls on the team.

imthebackseatcoach, I apologize I wasn't at the game the problem is as a former goalkeeper (of course back then if we were lucky we had a pig blatter for a ball or usually just a rock that was hopefully almost round). I'm a little touchy about Keepers. You are correct that it is the little things adding up, that lead to defeats. Count your blessing that you have a Keeper, a lot of HS games are lost for lack of one, or the small boo-boo's that you mentioned. Fortunately the season doesn't generally turn on one game, so those players that are off one day can come back and redeem themselves the next. Let's hope they are around long enough to allow me to see them play one of the Baton Rouge teams in the playoffs.

I know DeRidder won over Pineville 4-1 last night. Does anyone know the score on the Sam Houston vs. Leesville game? Also I read on another thread about how district placement is decided, i.e., goal difference, playoff game, etc. Does anyone know what the rules are for this District? Thanks

Each district makes it's own rules, so ask Brian. Or check www.lhsaa.org/sports/soccer/soccerby-laws.pdfThere are 7 districts in DII. 32 of 37 Div. II teams make the playoffs, so with two district victories, i suspect Tioga is already in. Probably only the 0-fer teams will get cut out of the playoffs.

Actually the Tioga DeRidder game finished out 6-7 with PKs. DeRidder finished 1st half on top 1-0. Tioga came back in the second half and with three quick goals in a 10 minute period should have put the game away. Burlew had 2 and Jones 1. However, they got lax and the Coronel girls WILL burn you if you leave them on their own. Each scored one from outside the box to put the game into overtime. Tioga again came out Burlew scored in the first 10. In the second 10 Marisol was AGAIN left open and that is all it took, game tied 4-4. PKs 1 each from the Coronel sisters and one from Kindler. Jones and Parker were the only 2 who managed to make their goals for Tioga. One of those "reality checks" you hate to see if you're Tioga.

I always thought the winner of PKs got one point, regardless of the number of PKs made. I've been wrong before.

I thought so too Mung, but then again, I have been wrong a time or two as well. All in all, sounds like it was an exciting night.
