SH scored first on a PK for a fall in the box. Goalie blocked it, but did not hold it and SH#10 put in the rebound. Melanie Queen(#17) tied it for ASH, and SH quickly scored on a set play off the kickoff. SH up 2-1 at half. ASH leading scorer Pharris out after hard tackle at half. No scoring in second half until late, when SH got the final goal on rebound w/about 5 minutes left. Great defense by SH to shut down ASH scoring. Final standings: 1. SH, 2. (T) ASH/Tioga, 4. Deridder, 5. Pineville SH gets a wildcard, probably Northside, or maybe one of the BR teams, McKinley or Tara. ASH goes to Zachary, and Tioga plays St. Michaels(frmr Bish Sullivan) at home. Guessing Pineville to Neville, and Deridder to STM or maybe Parkway. There will be a number of byes, so who knows exactly. Good luck to D2D2 in the playoffs. check this link tomorrow for filled brackets: www.lhsaa.org/brackets/2006SoccerGirlsBrackets.pdf

My mistake above: Zachary comes to ASH Trojan Stadium, Thursday, Feb. 9 at 5:30. Hopefully we do better with these Broncos. As you find out the date and times of your playoff games, please post 'em. I'd like to go see games that don't conflict.

Tioga will be travelling to St. Michael's for a 5:30 kickoff on Thursday, February 9. St. Michael's plays at Burbank Soccer Complex on Burbank Drive. Word is, bring your own chairs, folks.

ASH is having a "double header". Girls vs Zachary at 5:30 and ASH boys vs Zachary at 7 pm on Thursday. That ought to be fun.

To Dist 2 playoff bound teams----Good luck and represent our district well. Show people around the state that our district is one of the strongest in the state. We compete all district long, now is time for us to cheer for each other. Next year people will be looking at our district for state ranking team. Again, tell all the girls Good Luck from Broncoland.
P.S. Post scores when you can, so we can keep up with each other.

How did ASH in up with home game and Tioga had to travel. I thought all ties were to be playoff games. Since both were tied for 2nd and they split the series with each other. Last year everything was decided before season, how it would be determined.

My undrestanding from listening to various conversations is that Tioga did not care to do a play-off game due to injuries. Thus ASH got the second seed and Tioga got third.

I was told Tioga coach and ASH coach talked after ASH loss to Sam Houston. Due to Tioga's injured, Tioga coach left it to the ASH coach which seed he wanted. Our coach decided to go second. If game had been played Tioga coach assured Ash coach that seeding would have turned out the same way. It was really a very wise decision on the Tioga coaches part and benefitted both teams to get ready for playoffs instead of making both teams face each other again. In the old districts, we played each other three times, but that still didn't eliminate the possibliity of a tie. There is no way to mathmatically eliminate a tie, seeding was decided by who won the most games between the two teams tied. That would unfortunately require a fifteen game schedule in district and make it difficult to have many "out of district" games.

ASH over Zachary, 4-0. Pharris gets the first goal about 7 minutes in, before I even got there. Miller hits a chip shot over the goalie's head for the second. Zachary drills one off the top bar, ASH 2-0 at half. Pharris traps a low goal kick and rockets one in from 5 yds outside the box early in the second half. Bindursky completes the scoring with a nice grubber to the far post. Zachary hit the top bar again in the second. Well played by Zachary, and ASH defense bent but did not break. Play by play at game provided by Mark Godwin, director of crossroads soccer, as well as prizes for answering questions. Sadly, the crowd's knowledge of World Cup soccer was poor, and autographed jersey eventually went to young lady who could identify two americans who play in the English Premier League. I read St. Michael over Tioga in double OT. Give us some play by play iminthebackseastcoach. Sounds like a pretty impressive showing by Tioga. advocate article: www.2theadvocate.com/sports/preps/2291831.html

Good article in the Advocate about the game. I agree with Mung, St. Michaels v Tioga had to be a "nail biter". I have forwarded the article to the Town Talk.

The Tioga girls, Freshman Keeper Brittany Aswad in particular, played the game of their career last night. The injuries that caused Tioga to take 3rd seed for additional rest time before the game just could not be overcome. St. Michael had 25 shots on goal with 3 to Tioga. Winger Morgan Burlew could not get up to her usual speed and Julie Jones, Central Striker, had to be iced down as soon as she came off the field for shin splints. These two girls accounted for 32 of the 39 goals in district this year, so that speaks for the scoring problem. 0-0 at end of regulation time.
Half way into first overtime THS defender missed a ball and SM Kadi Whisnant was wide open for a shot high across the goal the keeper couldn't reach.
Coach spoke with the team and they decided to go for a goal, knowing changes could give SM the opportunity for additional goals. THS Sweeper and Captain, Tomonica McQueen was pulled into midfield for an attack effort in the last 5 minutes of the 2nd OT. Without her backing up the defensive line St. Romain was able to score two more goals from the exact spot Whisnant had scored the first one.
With a young team (we only lose 1 Sr) and a great showing, Tioga will hopefully be in the picture the next few years. The girls had a fairy tale year and they are excited. It's done wonders for the game of soccer in this area, and that's important.

Thanks for the nice words ashfan, the same goes to you guys and the team. We hope for a better year next year, only losing 3 Seniors. Hopefully with our returning players and a healthy 2nd year goalie we can give everyone a run for their money next year. A note on our playoff game. Our girls did their best, held close in the first half only giving up 2 goals. In the end stamina played a huge role, well that and an awesome EA team. They had 28 girls to our 14. Our keeper, Talia Afoa was able to come back and play keeper that game. She was a little tentative, still being in a soft cast. but did a good job all in all. Best of luck to ASH and Sam Houston in the playoffs! We will be rooting for you guys, To Tioga, look forward to more exciting games next year! Next season will be my 8th and last as a Lady Dragon mom. I was there for the inception of the girls program and have watched it grow over the past 7 years into something we can all be proud of. My daughter may leave , but my heart will stay with the Lady Dragons forever!

Thanks for the kind words. It was nice to meet some of the great parents and coachs for EA last week. Althought it is my "senior year" as it were for girls soccer, I will be starting over the following year on the boys side with my son. Yep, thats 12 straight years of high school soccer. Hope to cross paths with you all again next year. You might remember me as Brandy's mom.
